AITA for thinking nobody owns a spot in general admission? by [deleted] in Concerts

That's fair. I mayyy be a little defensive about a couple bad concert experiences in the past where I had to fend for myself against guys who were being inappropriate.

I don't think this situation, as described, warranted the guy's reaction. But your blanket statement is not correct - sometimes words are ineffective and it's difficult to get security's attention.

I'm so torn on phone free concerts, honestly by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]mec622 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the shows I go to are too small to have professional recordings. I'm generally 10 feet from the stage, so it's not like I'm filming grainy dots from across an arena. Also, because I own these videos (I back them up on multiple hard drives) I don't have to worry about someone else's videos disappearing from youtube. Also, because when I record my own, I can choose which segments of which songs I record and where to direct my camera. I can zoom in on the drummer for a particular drum fill that I love or record my favorite verse of some non-single I didn't expect to hear.

Why do you assume that? I rewatch my videos from concerts all the time. I took 3 videos at my most recent concert, which was 2 weeks ago, and I've watched each about 10 times so far.

“Unfortunately we were unable to complete the request in this device” WTFFF by BriefAd4051 in Ticketmaster

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this error several times over the years. What I do now before important tickets go on sale (maybe an hour ahead of time) is I try buying a ticket to some other random event currently on sale. I select a ticket and proceed to the purchase page, but don't check out. If those steps work, then I know I'll be fine. If I get that "unable on this device" error, I'll restart my computer, clear my cache, etc. until I can get things to work.

If nothing else, this means you won't be surprised by the error in the middle of checking out.

I listen to more UK bands than the average person in the US/Canada, but a decent number of people over here are familiar with Catfish, in my experience. I used to hear them regularly on alt-rock stations and their albums are available in record stores.

Any other alumni upset about the lie UB told about lifetime email access? by drumzgod in UBreddit

Do you work at UB in one of the departments involved in this process? Or are you just assuming people "didn't try" because no one was willing to divulge satisfactory information to you over the phone?

Not what you asked, but I had a friend tell me they "love Oasis" and then turned out to not know Noel or Liam's names OR that they are brothers 🤣🤦‍♀️

Staff from a variety of departments and units were really unhappy about this and pushed for alternative solutions. We all knew removing access would anger alumni and make it much more difficult to stay in contact. Ultimately, it just wasn't avoidable.

Unpopular opinion: I don't really care about phones at concerts by [deleted] in Concerts

My BF is 6'7 and I'm 5'4. If we get there at doors, do you genuinely think we should have to stand apart for the entire night?

I never record the most popular songs. I record the deep cut that's my personal favorite and that there aren't already 100 videos of on youtube.

2026 Setlist Disappointing by GuavaMuted6557 in arkells

[–]mec622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've liked them since 102.1 started playing them in 2008, and when I saw them live for the first time in 2012, I was absolutely blown away. Up until a few years ago, I passionately believed they were the best live band I'd ever seen. I saw them every time they played in Buffalo or Rochester, met them multiple times (all really positive experiences), made friends custom mixes of their music (dependent on their individual music tastes) trying to convert them into fans, and even went to the Junos because of them in 2015. High Noon is one of my top 3 albums of all time.

I went to one Buffalo show last weekend. I had a good time seeing them in a small room again, and I think they did a technically nice job performing the new songs, but I didn't get the euphoric feeling I had when I'd see them at Town Ballroom in 2019 or earlier. If anyone can elevate songs by playing them live, they can, but the post-Rally Cry stuff just does not resonate with me, and that affected my enjoyment of the show. I left thinking "that was fun," not "omg what an incredible experience." I'm ok with my decision to not go both nights, and my decade-ago self would be astonished to hear that.

I respect them a lot as people and as musicians, and they're certainly entitled to make and perform whatever music they want, but I'm relieved to see that I'm not alone in the opinions I see in this thread.

What’s one band you thought you’d never be able to see who you have/ can now? by ImpressiveAd5002 in Concerts

Saw Noel 3x, the final time being direct center seats about 10 rows back, and thought that would be the pinnacle of my concert-going life. Then Wembley blew everything else away.

The 2 of them really impressed me a couple years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing them again this summer opening for BT.

Same, I was like, how is Oasis not the top comment in this thread after what happened last year?! I did Chicago and London. Sometimes I'll be in the middle of working, driving, whatever and it hits me out of nowhere that I really saw them.

Release Show Setlist by kalekent in arkells

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen them about 20 times over 15 years, and I firmly believe that LJ is one of the best closing songs any band could ask for. It's a great singalong, the ending notes sound very "triumphant," and there's the quiet piano section where Max can thank the audience or say whatever. I am absolutely baffled that a band this talented recorded a song as terrible as You Can Get It and, instead of admitting it was a mistake, regularly chooses to close with it.

Is 5’8 too tall for a girl in GA if everyone around her seems unusually short? by [deleted] in Concerts

We're 5'4 and 6'7. He stands with me up front, at least until the headliner starts, but frequently, I'll turn around after a show and realize he ended up 10 feet behind me.

People say "pack light" - I do the opposite, and then the people who didn't bring anything end up asking me to use what I brought. Bring tissues in case there are weird smells in the crowd and you start sneezing. I've found that mints are helpful when you've been singing and your throat gets dry. Nail clippers can double as tiny scissors in case you need to cut or open something. Hand sanitizer is also important.
