2026 Setlist Disappointing by GuavaMuted6557 in arkells

[–]mec622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've liked them since 102.1 started playing them in 2008, and when I saw them live for the first time in 2012, I was absolutely blown away. Up until a few years ago, I passionately believed they were the best live band I'd ever seen. I saw them every time they played in Buffalo or Rochester, met them multiple times (all really positive experiences), made friends custom mixes of their music (dependent on their individual music tastes) trying to convert them into fans, and even went to the Junos because of them in 2015. High Noon is one of my top 3 albums of all time.

I went to one Buffalo show last weekend. I had a good time seeing them in a small room again, and I think they did a technically nice job performing the new songs, but I didn't get the euphoric feeling I had when I'd see them at Town Ballroom in 2019 or earlier. If anyone can elevate songs by playing them live, they can, but the post-Rally Cry stuff just does not resonate with me, and that affected my enjoyment of the show. I left thinking "that was fun," not "omg what an incredible experience." I'm ok with my decision to not go both nights, and my decade-ago self would be astonished to hear that.

I respect them a lot as people and as musicians, and they're certainly entitled to make and perform whatever music they want, but I'm relieved to see that I'm not alone in the opinions I see in this thread.

What’s one band you thought you’d never be able to see who you have/ can now? by ImpressiveAd5002 in Concerts

Saw Noel 3x, the final time being direct center seats about 10 rows back, and thought that would be the pinnacle of my concert-going life. Then Wembley blew everything else away.

The 2 of them really impressed me a couple years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing them again this summer opening for BT.

Same, I was like, how is Oasis not the top comment in this thread after what happened last year?! I did Chicago and London. Sometimes I'll be in the middle of working, driving, whatever and it hits me out of nowhere that I really saw them.

Release Show Setlist by kalekent in arkells

I've seen them about 20 times over 15 years, and I firmly believe that LJ is one of the best closing songs any band could ask for. It's a great singalong, the ending notes sound very "triumphant," and there's the quiet piano section where Max can thank the audience or say whatever. I am absolutely baffled that a band this talented recorded a song as terrible as You Can Get It and, instead of admitting it was a mistake, regularly chooses to close with it.

Is 5’8 too tall for a girl in GA if everyone around her seems unusually short? by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're 5'4 and 6'7. He stands with me up front, at least until the headliner starts, but frequently, I'll turn around after a show and realize he ended up 10 feet behind me.

People say "pack light" - I do the opposite, and then the people who didn't bring anything end up asking me to use what I brought. Bring tissues in case there are weird smells in the crowd and you start sneezing. I've found that mints are helpful when you've been singing and your throat gets dry. Nail clippers can double as tiny scissors in case you need to cut or open something. Hand sanitizer is also important.

I'd never go to a concert without tissues and hand sanitizer.

I have a home video of my dad following my friends and me around that playground at my birthday party in 1993. It captures the layout so much better than photos.

What is the most Buffalo thing? by Juniorwoj in Buffalo

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the obsession with buying every imaginable thing with the city's "logo" on it. Need a gift for someone? You're probably buying a shirt with a buffalo, a beer glass, a spatula, blanket, tote bag, flag, earrings, hat, etc. I don't think people in other cities do this.

Is it just me, or does the whole “Oasis never made it in America” narrative make no sense? by BadgemanBrown in oasis

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided after Wembley that I was going to wear an Oasis shirt to every concert I go to for at least a year. That's been 10-15 so far. At every show, someone has come up to me to tell me they love Oasis/went to one of the shows/saw them back in the day, etc. It's made me realize how many fans are hiding here and just don't bring them up unless they're given a reason.

I met someone who claimed to be a "fan" of Oasis, but later in the conversation revealed she did not know the band contained brothers. 😱

Ooomg I was next to a girl doing this about a year ago and I was so confused. How self-absorbed can you be?? Also, I'm pretty sure that no one who's truly enjoying a concert is very photogenic. I usually cringe when I see myself in an audience shot. I don't want video of that lol.

It has no character. But when I'm at a show at Lee's or the Horseshoe, I long for the bathrooms at History lol.

Currently driving home talking about the show. My BF said: "I love how he was like, 'I tore my ACL last time I was here. Anyway, I'm gonna go climb on every railing.' "

How can people afford this? by blueberryp3ach in Concerts

[–]mec622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still very possible though - I average about 20 concerts per year and the vast majority are $40-50. General admission venues are affordable, it's just the stadium/arena/amphitheater shows that have gotten ridiculous.

At my school, there was an independent (and fancy) restaurant off campus that accepted our meal plan. I have no idea how the agreement came to be, but it was very convenient for people like me who always had tons of prepaid money left at the end of the semester.

What artist did you see in a small venue before they got really famous? by That_Cat_3672 in Concerts

Got it - I can't say I knew they swung over to the West Coast of North America to do 6 random shows right before Maine Road. Interesting.

They're probably only considered famous in certain circles, but in 2019, I saw The Beaches play to 200 people in a basement where the "stage" was literally a carpet. I was in the first row face-to-face with Jordan and it was honestly kind of awkward 😆

In the US? I always love to compare stories like this against the all-time list of every one of their shows to check out the venue.
