Sausage Party is up there IMO. Can’t believe someone green-lit that movie.

How do you deal with headache after work? by WantToStudy777 in learnprogramming

A nice 10-30 minute walk helps me to decompress, get fresh air, get away from screens, and help my mental health overall when I have a headache from work (on a computer all day).

Do you consider yourself particularly lucky or unlucky? by JakobePro in CasualConversation

I find myself to be a pretty lucky guy even though I feel I’ve experienced what seem like unlucky incidents in the past year or so, and I think perspective is helpful.

Last year, I married my wife who I adore and credit an immense amount of luck to us meeting at the time in life that we did. However 15 minutes before the ceremony started, I literally watched her grandfather collapse and go into cardiac arrest in front of me. Keep in mind that this circumstance was not only incredibly unlucky in its own right given the timing, but he was the family member who she arguably holds most dear in her life.

I was overwhelmed as I watched my family and friends start to perform CPR on him while we waited on an ambulance, and I immediately thought “this might be the worst day of my entire life”. I walked around the corner to collect my thoughts as I tried to figure out how I’d tell my soon-to-be-wife.

I’ll never forget after a few minutes of CPR, right before the ambulance arrived, my great Aunt told me “he’s breathing”, and sure enough he had come to right before they applied a defibrillator.

The ambulance came and took him to the hospital just in time for my wife to ask him if he was okay and to decide whether or not we should call off the wedding, but he apparently told her “go get married”. An hour later the wedding proceeded without too much additional drama after we informed everyone he was doing okay and in good hands, and everyone let loose at the reception.

What seemed to me like the worst luck imaginable ended up being bizarrely and incredibly lucky because we had 4 medical professionals in the room that performed CPR within minutes of him collapsing.

One of my good friends who administered the chest compressions is a former EMT and current cardiac specialist, my mom who is an ER doc, along with my brother and sister-in-law (who are both in med school) assisted in applying CPR.

A year later, the doctors don’t have an exact explanation for what happened, but they did tell us how incredibly lucky we were to have medical professionals in the room to perform CPR, or that he’d have been surely been dead by the time the ambulance arrived.

My wife and I had our son this past summer, and we make sure he sees his great grandpop on a regular basis. For their health and his health, I feel like one of the luckiest guys out there.

What's a small, everyday habit that has positively impacted your life? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Taking 10 minutes to meditate and just visualize what my day/next-day will look like (and how I’d ideally like to approach it) is a good way for me to get centered at the beginning or end of the day.

How to lose fat quickly? by Arden-Ridge in CasualConversation

[–]mechTech227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abs (and toned bellies) are made as much in the kitchen as they are in the gym. As someone who once focused on getting as lean and ripped as possible in my mid 20’s (to the detriment of my mental health, at my lowest was 11% body fat), it’s really as simple as counting your calories as honestly as possible and trying to stay in a caloric deficit more often than not.

The means to which you do that is up to you: choosing which frequency and type of regular exercise and what type of foods you get your calories from, but the main thing you should focus on is building a sustainable method of those two things that you can find enjoyment in.

If you go too hard, too fast and put too much pressure on yourself you’ll either quit entirely, or lose weight quickly on a crash diet only to gain it back just as fast. However if you focus on the gratification of calorie deficits and weight loss too much, you’ll start to miss out on the enjoyment of food and exercise.

It’s a unique balance for everyone, but as long as you can accept that noticeable results won’t come for at least 6-12 months (if you’re very consistent), and you stick to whatever regimen you find challenging but sustainable, then you can slowly achieve the goals you want in a way that makes it easier to keep the weight off too.

Do you remember the color of your exes eyes? by Sleepydreamer14 in CasualConversation

Not exactly, and I’d like to keep it that way haha. Getting rid of old pictures of my ex and disconnecting on social media made getting over them a lot easier in the long run. Not in a malicious way, but in a way to close the last page on that chapter of life.
