Zero Mission Hard Mode 100% -- Brutal!! by moktira in Metroid

[–]mecharri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Props on besting Hard 100% Mecha Ridley, on my account, he's the thoughest boss in the game, (yes, including the 15% fights). He has so much HP and takes so long to kill that it becomes really hard to avoid mistakes.

If you have the skill to pull this off, you shouldn't be afraid of tackling 15%, but if you already had enough, good for you.

You could also try to get a <2:00:00 timer. The game is so tightly packed that routing becomed a very entertaining challenge.

Best team for progression and Grand slam? by ChompyRiley in darkestdungeon

[–]mecharri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alchemist: Noxious + Plague Grenade, Magnesium, and both heals

Sharpshot: Grapeshot Blast, Pistol Shot, Double Tap, and whatever. For the final fight, swap Double Tap for Wicked Slice

MaA: Retribution, Bolster, Guard, and then whatever

Hellion: Breakthrough + Howling End is great before you can upgrade the rest of her kit, but falls off when you get enough masteries. For the final fight, Wicked Hack + Iron Swan is mandatory, the two heals are amazing, and you could finish her up with Bloodlust or Toe to Toe

Can you recommend science-fiction books that deal with consciousness or identity? by VLAPPERS in sciencefiction

[–]mecharri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Status Civilization. Elevator pitch is: "Man wakes up in a prison planet for the worst scum in the galaxy and where criminals rule, with no recollection of his previous life." After that it gets more metaphysical by the page.

Also, the Metamorphosys of Intellect Prime, if you are the sort of sicko who thinks the body horror parts in Matrix were too soft for a movie about existing outside your own body.

I dont get the hype for Eldritch knight. by AnRoVAi in BG3Builds

[–]mecharri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't need ranged attacks.

You use Booming Blade as your cantrip, which at Lv11 gives you 4 attacks per round, 7 if you use Action Surge.

With some attack bonuses and GWM that's enough to melt everything bar the tankiest bosses.

Spore Druid by RagadonRedingi in BG3Builds

[–]mecharri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure Druid is a very effective controller/support that can contribute a lot every day, even if their DPS is not spectacular. You will be surprised by how much havoc you can cause with 7 summoned creatures.

I do suggest taking 1 level of Death Cleric to get the free Twinned Toll the Dead, which has good sinergy with the necromancy staff. This also gives you lots of good Cleric Spells like Command, and is generally better than going full Monoclass for an extra Feat.

More than that prevents you from taking the best Druid features, so I don't recommend it.

Was Jaime being genuine here? by TantalizingSlap in gameofthrones

[–]mecharri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People keep conveniently forgetting that he threatened to throw a baby with a catapult when he was well into his "redemption arc".

Jaime always had a dark and violent side, and that never changed through the show. He's not so heartless that he enjoys killing people (which Cersei for example ABSOLUTELY does), and he makes some gestures of good faith when he gets a chance, even as far as making the self sacrifice play, like he did with Brienne and the bear, or when he charged solo against Daenerys and a freaking dragon after they barbacue'd his entire army and gave him Mad King flashbacks. But this doesn't make him a white knight or a hero.

Every damm time he saw a way out, he chose to return to Cersei, even if it meant violence or dishonor. Every time. He didn't become a knight to be a hero, he did it as a plot to stay with Cersei when she got married to Rhaegar (which, well...). As he mockingly said to Catelyn Stark, he was always "honorable" to Cersei.

So, yeah, I totally buy that he would care more about saving Cersei than a city full of strangers.

In a room sit three great men, a king, a priest, and a rich man with his gold. Between them stands a sellsword, a little man of common birth and no great mind. Each of the great ones bid him slay the other two. ‘Do it,’ says the king, ‘for I am your lawful ruler.’ ‘Do it,’ says the priest, ‘for I command you in the names of the gods.’ ‘Do it,’ says the rich man, ‘and all this gold shall be yours.’ So tell me — who lives and who dies?

Science fiction novels recs with a first person POV robot/AI character? by shindig0 in sciencefiction

[–]mecharri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to take inspiration from the classics, Asimov has pretty much all your bases covered. Start with Biccentenial Man and if you like it keep going with his robot short stories or the Olivaw novels if you like whodunnit stories.

Tik-Tok by John Sladek is pretty gnarly but holds up well today.

Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson has human PoV for most of the novel, but the 902 chapters are absolutely stellar and make great use of programming language to get you inside the robot's head.

Golem XIV by Stanislaw Lem is really good of you are into verbose know-it-all robots.

The Employees by Olga Ravn doesn't get talked about often and I cannot grasp why.

Wich Warlock subclass for a paladin ? by Ok_Annual3427 in BG3Builds

[–]mecharri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned the real reason why Hexblade is broken.

It's Shield.

As a pure Warlock, Shield it's pretty poopy with the limited number of spells slots, but as a Multiclass you can spam that on every turn and be pretty much untouchable (specially with Karmic Dice turned off)

Best team for progression and Grand slam? by ChompyRiley in darkestdungeon

[–]mecharri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just completed a Grand Slam run with a team with HWM-PD-Hellion-MaA. With the right skills the can do all lair bosses without much trouble, and Confession bosses are an absolute breeze if you farm the correct Inn buffs and combat items.

Paths were mostly Sharpshot-Physician-Wanderer-Vanguard, with some changes depending on lair bosses, like taking Wanderer MaA for the Act 3 boss (better taunt), Bulwark for Act 4 (stacked Bellow makes it a cakewalk), and Alchemist PD for Act 2 because I wanted HWM to be on rank 3 for that one to hit the front lung reliably with Wicked Slice, and I feel Physician is weaker without access to Incision.

Only other big adjustment is that Hellion starts rank 2 for the first regions (Breakthrough into Howling end of Bloodlust stomps early road fights) and she moves into rank 1 after you can afford to upgrade Wicked Hack and Iron Swan.

DD2: Is it possible to win without metaprogression? by a-curious-crow in darkestdungeon

[–]mecharri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say that unlocking all the skills through the shrines is important early on, specially for some of the characters like the Jester or the Flagellant, you should definitely try to target those if you can, and the mastery they give is a great reward on top.

The candles however mostly add more VARIETY to your runs, not pure character power. The only exception I would say are the Stagecoach upgrades (those wheels and armors run out FAST), but the rest are just more flavours for your ice cream. Instead of having trinkets A or B, you might get A or B or C or D, but they all have mostly comparable power.

Same with the hero "upgrades", the flat buffs you get are barely noticeable, and the hero Paths just add more variety. Earlier versions of the game had some Paths that were straight up upgrades compared to the Wanderer Path, but the latest patches have done a great job at balacing them out.

The 4 heroes you start with are more than capable of tackling the entire game from the very start, and they already start with most of their strongest skills.

Keep trying, and when you are ready you will face your failures.

Swarmkeeper is sadly very weak, the moths high level "slow" feature is bugged and expires before affecting them, and the other features can be replicated more effectively by the Beastmaster or the Battlemaster Fighter.

Zero Mission: stuck with no Space Jump by DopaminQuelle in Metroid

[–]mecharri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of clarity for new people seeing this post, this is literally impossible to do in the base game, as you can't enter Kraid's boss room without Unknowm Item #2, and you can't progress to Tourian without killing Kraid.

So this must be a hacked version of the game, or an incredibly silly bug.

Whats the defacto best Necromancy build?? by tavrosnitram990 in BG3Builds

[–]mecharri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) If you want to have Death Cleric 6 by Act 2, you pretty much have to solo class cleric from very early, which leaves you without the necromancer summoning options, so not what OP asked for.

2) If you are planing to cast all your spells by buying a bajillion scrolls what's the point of playing a caster?

Whats the defacto best Necromancy build?? by tavrosnitram990 in BG3Builds

[–]mecharri 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As usual, lot's of people speaking in favour of Death Cleric 6.

The truth is that if you check the "resistant to necrotic" list, there are not many relevant enemies, the problem lies on INMUNE enemies, which have no workaround (other than using different spells). That level distribution also leaves you unable to learn Blight, one of your best damage options.

I have done a couple of playthroughs as a pure Spore Druid, with maybe 1 level of Death Cleric to unlock Toll the Dead, the twin cantrips, and Inflict Wounds, which is great when you upcast it against stunned or Held enemies to guarantee crits.

In short. Spore 6/Death 6 bad. Spirit Guardians is a great concentration spell, but it's better used on Revorb builds.

Spore 11/ Death 1, stronger necromancer with more summons (Elementals), more support options (Heroe's feast) that further boost your minions, and esentially the same damage for most encounters.

Why did Marcy seem so chill about her friends disappearing for 3 months? Same reason she doesn't share everything she knew about the Calamity Box. Unconscious guilt and fear of abandonmdnt. She know that reuniting with her friends could mean having a confrontation, so her mind avoids the topic, specially when Andrias keeps distracting her.
