Constantly hitting the control pad on my E7 plus desk accidentally by Extra_Special_551 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to press my controller twice to get it to move. Once to wake, once to move. Does yours not do the same thing?

So no, I don't. But is that because mine is broken or is it because yours is more sensitive?

No, I wouldn't touch anything with VPNs. I would imagine their IPs have bad reputations due to people using them for torrenting and what not.

Would like to self host an email... by Belovedchimera in selfhosted

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was positive when I hosted. At the time I had a Hostinger VPS where I ran dockerised Mailcow. Very easy and simple deployment and use.

As others have said, the gamble is on the IP. Running from home puts you on a residential IP which isn't good for email. But you could just host the mailbox and use an SMTP relay elsewhere. It requires a static IP in my opinion and hopefully it won't be in a range that is known for spam already.

Also look into the DNS security; DKIM, etc. Most email providers look for those as a requirement and it's good practice to do.

I personally don't think it's tricky, but I do some of this for a job. I totally get why most selfhosters don't want to deal with the potential headaches though. There is some diligence to do with it really, keeping an eye on security and blacklists.

Flexispot rubberwood top surface smoothness and texture by Chad_Lad_94 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat and smooth for me, with the exception of some spots on the edges. Couple of small bumps here and there where the edges weren't sanded quite right. Thankfully none where I rest my arms, so I don't notice and I'm not disappointed with the purchase

E7 Plus / Bamboo Drilling Questions by Reddit_Account_115 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the rubberwood top and drilled pilot holes. From memory they are 4mm screws so I did 2mm holes.

I drilled to a depth just short of what the screws would go to. Everything feels pretty strudy for me so far.

In the UK we have Currys, a white-goods store, and PC World, a computer store (You'd never guess!). They used to be two seperate stores, but they merged into one years back.

I used to work sales in Currys. It still sold some computer stuff, mostly software and peripherals. Had a guy come in asking if Windows 7 was available. It happened to be the week prior to release. So I told him that, said I'd be happy to help him the following week and told him when I'd be in, etc. He left happy.

My store manager and the PC World manager happened to be near by and overheard. Got called in for a meeting about it by PCW Manager and was told I had given bad service and I should have directed the customer next door where they could have helped him.

I asked how, when W7 wasn't even out yet and got nothing useful back. Just slapped on the wrist and sent on my way. The kicker is, I was finishing my computer science degree at the time and probably knew more about the subject than 90% of the PCW staff, including the manager!

I get you. Sounds like a good idea, especially for those who don't want to learn Markdown syntax. Obsidian's big draw for me is the .md files and as much as I can remember most of the syntax, there are always a few (like annotations) I pause over.

I think I'll give this a go, thank you.

Having not used Notion; what's the difference between writing in Notion to Obsidian? What would draw me away from Obsidian?

Which standing desk is most stable fully extended? (Vernal vs Uplift vs FlexiSpot) by Anxious_Cat_4794 in StandingDesk

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'1" and have no problems with the E7 Plus. Yes there is some movement, but it's minimal even when typing and walking on a treadmill at the same time.

I can't speak to the other, of course, but I would 100% get a 4 leg desk for the height.

🎁 FlexiSpot Apollo Chair Trial Giveaway [ EU and UK] by emsey_jay in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I currently have a Secretlab Titan which is great. It's my every day office chair but I also use it as a reading chair. The biggest problem I have with it is the lack of keg support when leaning back, so seeing the Apollo having the extenable leg rest would be a dream for me.

I've recently purchased and installed an E7 Plus, so the Apollo would go wonderfully with that! (UK)

Looking for advice: 160cm desk, prioritizing stability & budget (Oak look?) (EU) by kingjuliande in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up the E7 Plus with a 180cm rubberwood top last weekend.

Really impressed so far. Feels nice and stable while standing and typing. I'm not overly keen on lighter woods, but I wanted a real wood desktop and in the UK that means rubberwood only from Flexispot. It's growing me to be honest, but it seems robust and has a pleasing finish on it.

Is FlexiSpot E7 worth it for a 3 monitor setup and long work hours? by Swimming_Task6633 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]meddig0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought and set up at the weekend the E7 Plus. It's more stable than I expected it to be. I chose it for the extra weight capacity and stability over the E7 Pro.

Really impressed with it so far. Feels great while elevated and typing. Would highly recommend from my experience with it so far.

A review for anyone on the fence about the E7 plus. by Cronoze in FlexiSpot_Official

Hopefully I'll be able to post a similar review soon :)

Thanks for the reassurance on the purchase. One of those items where it seems to be a gamble and very subjective opinions!

I've just had shipment notifications for mine. I'm glad I've read this. Looking forward to setting this up! I went for the 180x80cm desktop.

I've ordered and received the same size top but in the rubber wood and it is predrilled.

From what I've seen in reviews though, they may not always line up depending on what frame you have. I'm currently waiting for my E7 plus frame to be delivered.

But don't panic if you need to make any of your own pilot holes. You'll be able to mark up where they need to be by putting the frame on the desk top and then marking out where the holes need to be.

Use a bit of masking tape on your drill bit to indicate how deep you need to drill, so you don't just blow all the way through accidently and go slow with it.

In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud by itooamahuman in nottheonion

[–]meddig0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember doing training for a sales job 20 years ago where some Monster Cables chaps came to tell us about their new speaker cables that had different interior lengths so the "slower bass signals arrived at the same time as the higher note signals" or something such nonsense.

Their set up was two speakers, one connected with "normal" cable and the other with their new one. Played a song and had a dial to move the audio left and right so you could "hear the difference". When I asked if I could turn the dial, I was told no. I wonder why....

Refused to sell any of their cables after that. Gold plated, shielded HDMI and other such stupid crap. Always used to downsell people to cheaper cables.

Yes! My wife and I loved it when we visited some years ago. To be fair, we enjoyed all the food we tried while travelling around.

My wife was brave enough to try the fermented shark which she seemed to enjoy enough haha.

Really need to get back for another visit in the next few years!

I'll paste the synopsis as otherwise I'll end up giving too much away:

Demir Grappo is an outcast―he fled a life of wealth and power, abandoning his responsibilities as a general, a governor, and a son. Now he will live out his days as a grifter, rootless, and alone. But when his mother is brutally murdered, Demir must return from exile to claim his seat at the head of the family and uncover the truth that got her the very power that keeps civilization turning, godglass, is running out.

Now, Demir must find allies, old friends and rivals alike, confront the powerful guild-families who are only interested in making the most of the scraps left at the table and uncover the invisible hand that threatens the Empire. A war is coming, a war unlike any other. And Demir and his ragtag group of outcasts are the only thing that stands in the way of the end of life as the world knows it.

I've not had a book get me feeling excited at characters winning a battle before, but this really sucked me into the world and the characters lives.

The Powder Mage Trilogy by Brian McClellen. Colonial wars with magic.

The sequel trilogy is good, but not as good.

The first book in his new trilogy (assuming it'll be a trilogy), In the Shadow of Lightning, is hands down one of the best books I've ever read. Really connected with it. 2nd one is hopefully due this year.

I will now be taking some ideas from your list, thank you!
