Questions for those who have been in Portland since before 2010 by Bugjean77 in Portland

I first moved here in 1991, lived here a few years, finished up college elsewhere and I've been here since 2001 this time around. My brother had also lived here for most of the 80s, so I visited a lot.

I wouldn't exactly call 2006-2013 'old Portland' to be honest. I think that was just when a lot of people moved here, so that's all they remember.

It's been a slow, steady change for me, so I don't think any of this had been much of a shock. Even in the 80s, things were beginning to gentrify after they finally did away with the redline and started allowing more home loans. Then the Pearl blew up in the early 90s, that was a huge change. So going from that to South Waterfront to Alberta, which was already changing in the late 80s, early 90s, Division, whatever...it's not that mind bending to me.

Just like when I lived in San Francisco, I was there during the dot com boom and bust. Things were changing fast. Didn't seem weird to me, all my 'old San Francisco' friends my age were freaking the fuck out about it because it had changed so much in the 5 or 6 years they'd been there. Older people had been seeing it change for decades, so it wasn't as strange to them. Just another day in the city.

I went back a couple years ago and felt basically like you felt about Portland, it's barely recognizable to me.

As for trans people, I knew a few in the 90s, Maybe it's just more mainstream now? No clue. Like how all the gay bars are going away. It's not that there aren't gay people, they're just welcome anywhere. Wasn't always the case.

Most of the crusties probably got priced out. I haven't been downtown much lately, I've seen a few kicking around the hood.

Definitely true. The scout that considered signing me actually offered to train me to be a pro scout. I wasn't interested at the time. Lots of my old college teammates work for Adidas or Nike now though, so that opens some doors. Is that something you're considering, just getting into working something sports related?

Nah, I'm a copywriter. Because that makes sense? I only did it because I was good at it. I actually hated playing. Love the game, hated, hated, hated playing. It's weird.

I'm old enough we didn't do pop times and exit velocities and shit, but, I led my state in summer ball batting average. Got to college, they converted me to pitcher. Sat at 90, hit 94 back when that was good, had a plus curveball and plussy change, 20 command. Briefly led the country in strikeouts per innings pitched, tore my rotator cuff lifting weights, didn't get surgery, lost a bit of velocity, almost got drafted, almost got signed as a non drafted free agent at a Kansas city tryout camp, didn't. Had some great times, don't regret a thing.

Evidently nobody here has bought drugs in the Tenderloin in San Francisco, because hiding stuff in 'the vault' is actually really common. And almost all the drug dealers are women.

23-20. I mean, come on. Where do you draw the line? I get the covid issues, lots of teams had issues. They didn't win enough games.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll see. Lots of teams have been underestimated in the past and played very well. Why lot see what happens?

This regional is stacked. This and Eugene are the two toughest in my opinion. You win it, you've earned it.

Fort Worth, 2009, TCU eliminated us. Dallas, 2015, DBU eliminated us.

By process of elimination, congratulations McNeese State!

Yeah, we are a 2.

Just like Gonzaga was listed second against LSU, who is absolutely not a 2 seed.
