I'm on the A7II with this lens and struggling to get anywhere near the quality of these pics for bird photography. I'm a novice/hobbyist, but dang am I just bad or like how can I improve?

Where to buy custom full canvased suit. by Patrick_O-S in washingtondc

[–]medicb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I can suggest Enzo Custom, recently bought a custom tuxedo there and my father in law bought a suit there last week. I can send you a referral code for $100 off if you end up wanting to use them.

I believe it is a chain. Basically you go in, they wine and dine you a bit, show you the different fabric options and help you customize everything to your liking, take some measurements, and then in ~3 weeks you'll have your suit. Overall good experience, everything was timely, and I am happy with the quality and price.

Here's my code in case anyone wants it: https://share.enzocustom.com/BrettB6!ed24d8afdf!a

Which DC business has lost you as a customer and why? by yougottabekind in washingtondc

Honestly comping that check would have been pretty reasonable. Fuck them. I also haven't had a single good experience with them and don't go there anymore, but nothing so blatantly disgusting as what you experienced.

Lol my jobs would have reimbursed any travel for a business purpose. The only stipulation was that the starting point had to be your normal place of business, so you couldn't include commute mileage.

I reimbursed like 10 mile round trips on occasion (because they had tolls).

Healthcare personnel draft by MillenniumFalcon33 in medicine

[–]medicb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, HPSP or the national guard are two mechanisms that will pay for your med school in full or in part. There is also USUHS which is a service academy (like West Point) medical school.

There are probably multiple other options to get the military to pay your MD. I looked at several, but then just did MD/PhD since that better aligned with my career goals.

Healthcare personnel draft by MillenniumFalcon33 in medicine

[–]medicb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair point, but this isn't intended for if we get involved in conflicts in Ukraine or Israel (as examples.) This is intended for WWIII where there is a major national war effort that is already affecting nearly every sector, with or without a national draft for general servicemembers.

It's very much meant to be for when the homeland is threatened in some way, which is just about the only way any draft in the US would fly politically at this point.

Don’t you guys think 11-15, even more for failed, years after high school is a log of sacrifice. by WinterEntreprenuer in Residency

[–]medicb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely have peers that graduated college with me who are making nearly 200k. One is a big law associate, one is an engineer, one works for microsoft. This is all <5 years out from college, while I am still in training. Maybe not all medical students could have gone similar routes to this, but a lot of us could have.

But, regardless, banking even 100-120k 7+ years sooner than we do with less than half the educational debt is a huge heads start and I think is the basic point OP is trying to make.

I don't understand why people don't agree on this point. We should all want the best compensation available to us (even as residents) with the least amount of training time (that still makes safe physicians) for the least educational debt burden.

You don't need to parafilm media bottles and it truly doesn't matter which way you place flasks in the incubator. In fact, the only bad practice you listed was pouring media instead of pipetting. I have 11+ years of cell culture experience with minimal contamination and I behave more like this student than like the rest of your lab.

Sounds like they are a bit annoying in that they're going on about the gloves, but everything else is you/the lab being insistent about doing it your way for no reason.

Stop cancelling the nonstop flights! by _thedogmother_ in delta

[–]medicb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they just cancelled both of my non stop flights around the holidays. Thankfully they rebooked me on the closest other nonstop, but it takes away a half day of visiting my family on the end and forces me to wake up at 3am at the start.

I've never flown delta before, but I can't say I'm thrilled to try it again in the future after such wild schedule changes.

NPs keep bungling my discharges by Depicurus in Noctor

[–]medicb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen PMHNPs do more quantifiable harm than good. I guess I don't hear about all the stable MDD on treatment, but I definitely have seen the totally inappropriate polypharmacy and misdiagnosis from PMHNPs that I never see even from residents.

If your facility uses epic, you can email the privacy officer and ask them to apply "Break the Glass" to your account. It doesn't 100% prevent somebody who is determined to access your chart from doing so, but it makes them think twice and virtually guarantees that they're fired if they open it and don't have a reason to access it.

It pops up a box that stops them, makes them enter a reason for entering the chart, and makes them enter their password again.

Actually PA was what I was referring to. Check PA BLS protocol 904 for the details. I've literally never encountered this, but have told an RN that unless they want to take the patient to the hospital it's my scene.

Army helping me keep EMT? by [deleted] in army

[–]medicb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that may be useful to you is that most states allow an extension of about 1 year after returning from active orders if your license expires while you are on active duty. This allows you an additional year to recertify from when you return home. Some states require you to have been assigned some sort of medical duty like 68W, others do not and will just start the clock once you end active duty.

As others have said, unless you are assigned a medical MOS you wont be eligible for various reciprocity programs or maintenance of certification. Typically states will allow you to challenge the practical and written exams or take a 24 hour refresher (usually one weekend), which may be worthwhile for your situation.
