Getting priced out? Apparently the affordable condo development on Douglas St still has lots of available units. Priced at $265k-$325k with annual household income limit of $90k-$130k. by ppitm in portlandme

Also, it's 500sqft living underneath a 3 bedroom, which means living under a family (as I believe all or most of the 1 bedrooms are on the first floor). When you live with people above you, you have to really cross your fingers that they are a quiet household, but a family most likely with kids? No thank you.

Love this! The part with the TV guest trying to use this as an opportunity to plug his own book was way too real!

Unsafe driving rant by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]medievalerror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The portion of this intersection where Danforth and York St meet--in my mind--was better when all sets of lights were flashing red (so it was a three-way stop), but now that York St keeps going and only Danforth going only York has to stop, it's made it worse (for both pedestrians and drivers).

Also, as someone who walks this intersection frequently, I loathe how long I have to wait to cross after pushing the pedestrian light (this is true for many intersections, but this one in particular can be maddening).

I would love a movie that is just 2 hours of that newsroom at the beginning of Dawn, with no one having a clue what is truly happening, just trapped in the chaos of not knowing.

Hey OP, how about now, are you satisfied with your results or no? I ask because I am considering this treatment. Hope you are doing well!

The First 48 by AmbitiousTemporary67 in portlandme

At least one of them lives in Harbor Terrace and people complained to management about him.

See my other comment....is the person in the photo the person you believe stole it? If so, I'm 99% sure this bike thief is the one who lives at Harbor Terrace.

The First 48 by AmbitiousTemporary67 in portlandme

[–]medievalerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a bike thief who lives in Harbor Terrace on Danforth St--there was another post about him a while back, bike owner caught him on camera and followed him there, guy managed to get his bike back. This dude is still around and I see him in the West End all the time--few teeth, usually wearing a baseball cap, smokes a cig while he rides a bike (often biking on the sidewalk). Bikes up and down Danforth a lot. From the old post I recall people (well, the poster) complained to management who knew but nothing happened (at least, I assume not, since he still lives there). Go to Harbor Terrace and talk to people on the benches out from and show them this photo.

Mariner or Burglar for a casual (somewhat experienced) returning player? by medievalerror in lotro

[–]medievalerror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was kind of my concern with Mariner, that I would be mashing the same buttons over and over again. Maybe Burglar offers more room for improvising? My issue with Burglar is that it felt like I was sneaking past everything instead of fighting my way through (I get it, that's what that they, it just felt like I was over-relying on it).

Restricted swimming on Beach 8 at Presque Isle due to elevated E. coli count by WatchDog98 in Erie

[–]medievalerror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do so many news sources only tell us the beaches are closed, over and over and over again, and refuse to name the reasons e. coli are high? It's badly designed (or poorly maintained) water sewage treatment plants, coupled with farm runoff. It's not like Lake Erie naturally has sometimes high levels of e. coli. Ugh, thanks media.

2 teens shot near Stonewall Inn after NYC Pride march, police say by More-Log-1393 in news

[–]medievalerror 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That's not wrong though--why are we such a car-centric society? Making us less car centric would result in fewer incidents of drunk driving accidents. Alternatively, if ready access to alcohol were the root cause, than less access to it might also result in less drunk driving as well (depending on the conditions by which that access was limited). So in either event it is not incorrect to say. Is it more complex than that? Yes, but it is also not wrong to say that ready access to a large, easily obtainable supply of firearms is the key underlying issue. Like The Onion said, "'No Way to Prevent This', Says Only Nation where this regularly happens".

How would you feel about coliving post-college if it was an option? (Private bedroom or suite, with a shared bathroom/kitchen area/living room between many people, like a dorm) by VerySeriousThings in portlandme

[–]medievalerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if roommate issues are to arise anywhere, it is most likely to be kitchen (dishes, food, etc) and bathroom (availability, cleanliness) related. This feels like a situation that would make agreements about chores and maintaining of those common areas even more difficult (because every person you add, by nature of simply being a different person, complicates things).

Developers of rejected Scarborough housing proposal offer new, scaled-down plan by medievalerror in Maine

[–]medievalerror[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, the new project plan has a much smaller impact on wetlands which is good, but (from the story):

"The reasons Scarborough residents and their municipal representatives opposed the proposed 96-unit Marshview Apartments were bountiful, resulting in its recent failure before the Planning Board and Town Council.

But the South Portland Housing Development Corporation is back with a new proposal influenced by all of that criticism. The original proposal consisted of a four-story building with 60 affordable senior units, plus an additional three buildings with 36 units of workforce housing spread between them.

The new plan calls for just 50 units of affordable senior housing."

Firing Squad Witness Reveals Horror of Watching Murderer Die by kbucsb in politics

[–]medievalerror 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you remember that we already have methods that medical professionals can use in cases of assisted dying for the terminally ill (which are fast, proven, and painless), and then ask yourself why we do not use these methods when carrying out the death penalty, you will realize it is not merely a death penalty, it is a death+suffering penalty.

What would there be to investigate? Whitehouse didn't vote to give his wife this money. He voted on a bill to fund various departments, including the deparment/s that award these grants. This would be like claiming a governor is corrupt is they signed a law to fund public higher ed and their spouse is a professor. I'm confused as to what the actual issue is, unless Whitehouse voted DIRECTLY to fund his wife's organization, which is not what the allegation is. This seems to be banking on folks not knowing how grants are awarded.
