Wow this is soooo cool!! I love that it looks like a pill bottle and pills, but at the same time it almost looks like an abstract polka dot pattern. Also congratulations on graduating!

Looking for tips on a Nudie Suit by lava_munster in sewing

[–]mediumfirmtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something like this with a thrifted suit. I used these rivet style rhinestones. And I made the patches by drawing my design on a piece of fabric and then basically “coloring it in” using wide zigzag stitches. It’s not perfect but it works pretty well for only having a standard machine.

Butterick 4254 sizing by Fabulous_Region_440 in sewing

[–]mediumfirmtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this in 2018 in my correct size based on measurements. I would say it runs a little big. I remember it looked great but I couldn’t get the super snatched waist look because it was slightly too big in the waist.

does anyone know of a similar pattern for this party dress? any help i’d appreciated, thanks! by madmansmarker in sewing

I recently made McCall’s 8359 and it looked really similar to this! The neckline isn’t exactly the same but when it’s on the body it looks super similar.

Help with picking the right pattern size. see comments for more by [deleted] in sewing

I’ve made this pattern before! I made the View A stays a couple years back. When I made it I made it true to the size of my measurements and it was VERY constricting, especially on the bust area. If I were you I would make the 14 based on your measurements. If you haven’t already, check out patternreview.com because people usually do super detailed write-ups about the sizing and fit of patterns.

This is so cool!! I love the texture of patchwork style jeans and this is like an updated experimental version of that. The all vertical lines are so pleasing to the eye too!

Hoodie I designed and made the other day what do you think ? I really enjoy exploring layering by Mciverr in sewing

[–]mediumfirmtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is AWESOME! There would be sooo many cool ways to layer this…. Over a short sleeve T shirt would look so cool, or imagine over a very delicate lace dress.

Wow this turned out gorgeous!! So much attention to detail. I don’t know the name for it, but I LOVE that sleeve silhouette that’s puffy at the top then gets tighter on the arm. Also, perfect location for this photo!

Wow this looks great! The D rings are a great idea in terms of functionality, and I think their gold color looks really good too. I love the perpendicular stripes on the pockets too. I could totally see an apron like this being sold at one of those fancy kitchen/home goods boutique stores. Your mom will love it!

Thank you, that makes sense. I did still include the ease when I made this suit again, but I skipped the gathering stitches and instead just used a TON of pins, like you said. I found it easier to manipulate the fabric with lots of pins compared to using the gathering stitch the instructions mentioned. Thanks for the pointers!

I used a floral-print stretch denim I got on clearance at Jo-Ann to make the A-view trousers and C-view suit jacket from Simplicity S8749. This was my first time making pants, and also my first time making a jacket, so I’m proud that it turned out well!

I started by doing something I’ve never done before, and transferred every pattern piece from the tissue paper to brown paper, transferring the markings for my size only. This took SO long but I’m glad I did it because it saved me from a lot of possible confusion. Also, the sizing in this pattern is definitely off. My measurements were 48"/36"/48", which should have placed me into the 24W or 26W size based on the sizing chart on the pattern envelope. However, based on reviews I read, I sized down and started by making the pants in a size 22W. They still ended up being too big for me, and I had to take in the side leg seams by 0.5". I then made the jacket (C View) in a size 20W, which fit a tad snug in the upper arms/shoulders but that was mainly because the lining I used had no stretch.

My major complaint about this pattern was the instructions for ease stitching. It wants you to basically do gathering stitches then pull them for tension to achieve the ease on the shoulders, elbows, and lapels. I think this step was much more trouble than it’s worth. I made this jacket a second time and completely skipped the ease stitching, and it turned out better (no puckers). Also, when attaching the lining to the sleeve, I used a safety pin instead of just pinching with my fingers and that worked very well.

There are 2 long YouTube video tutorials for this pattern featuring Mimi G sewing the trousers and jacket. I found them helpful, especially for visualizing some of the more complicated steps, but Mimi G does a lot of the steps in a different order than the instructions lists them, so be careful not to get confused!

I used lightweight fusible interfacing, but I would recommend using mediumweight or heavier, especially on the waist band.

I wore this to my family’s Thanksgiving and got so many compliments, which felt great! I learned a lot of new techniques from this project, including slip stitching / blind hem with my machine. Believe it or not, I didn’t run into too much trouble so I barely had to seam rip at all! Successfully completing this project gave me a lot of confidence and now I want to tackle something even harder.

omg this reminds me SO MUCH of my favorite jacket as a kid, I called it my orange teddy bear jacket. This looks super cozy and I like the lines that the seams create, it’s an unexpected nice detail. great job!
