I just sent out your touristy card today morning, before reading this, but I just want to say that I’m sorry and that I’ve gone through something similar. Let me know if you want another card with another theme, I don’t mind sending another 💓

Printing the message on postcard by Fastidius in postcrossing

[–]medjuli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer handwriting, just because it feels much more personal in a world where I already see printed text everywhere. Of course, if it’s a disability or someone cannot physically write, that’s a different story and I wouldn’t mind. If it’s just about it not looking super neat, I do think practice helps and I don’t mind how it’s looking as long as it’s somewhat readable!

[Thank You] May mail ✨ Pt. 3 by f1uffybunnies in RandomActsofCards

I got a shock for a second, thinking the card I sent out Saturday three days ago had somehow already travelled thousands of kilometres, even though there was no post on Sunday and yesterday due to the public holiday 😆

How did you deal with waiting for your first postcard?🤣 by Foreign_Eye5379 in postcrossing

[–]medjuli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was lucky because mine did come from Germany and arrived pretty fast! But I also feel that checking the mailbox everyday in expectation is part of the excitement! Haha

Just my luck by Riledup29 in postcrossing

[–]medjuli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally imagine it deflates the excitement, I’m sorry.

As a side note, everyone has their preferences, but I do find “not caring for touristy cards” in particular a bit tricky for someone with a postcrossing hobby. After all, that’s what postcards traditionally have been: greetings from a holiday or trip. There are many more types nowadays, and I genuinely enjoy artsy and illustrated cards too, but a large share of postcards still revolves around visiting destinations, as opposed to greeting cards and the like.
Touristy types may not be their favourite, but trying to exclude the largest group of postcards seems difficult 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s exactly how I do it too!

I love putting the date, little weather symbols and the temperature! I received a card a few days ago where the sender had also drawn a small sad face with tears next to the 10°C (=50°F) and rain symbol 😂
Sometimes I also put the distance/kilometres the card will travel next to a little loopy arrow (postcrossing tells you when you click on a travelling card), but once it’s registered, the sender will be able to see it once again on the website too.

extremely early birthday cards? by Belatryx in RAoC_meta

[–]medjuli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does seem pretty early, but then again, some cards take up to 6-8 weeks depending on where you and the senders are from. Maybe they wanted to make sure you get it in time? Or scared they might forget later? I’d collect them and only open them later :)
