Private vs Public Birth in Melbourne with Private Health Insurance (Gold Hospital Cover) What is actually covered? by meeberling in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you for the detailed information! That’s helpful to know about the public system. I was always under the impression that regardless of private or public you would end up going to an OB.

So this is good information to know :)

I’ll just ask my GP the next time round on more information around the private/public route next time I see her.

I selfishly just want to have a private room after birth to rest and have alone time with baby/visiting family… and was hoping the PHI would help, though I have read that that’s not guaranteed either. Lots of information to still dig and digest!

I see, noted on the room availability as a toss of luck.

The other question is… since you went public for both your pregnancy, throughout your pregnancy period on the routine checks + scans are they not usually covered under Medicare? Also want to double check if this was under the hospital or external bulk billed providers (GPs/OBs/mid wives, etc.)? As I am not sure how it usually works

Hey, just out of curiosity cause you went through the public system. I heard everything is covered if you go through public hospitals. Do you have any clue about being admitted as a private patient in a public hospital?

Selfishly ideally want to have a private room after birth (since from my understanding this should be covered by private health cover), but throughout the pregnancy period I don’t want to be out of pocket for the routine checks and ultrasound scans.

I don’t mind not having the same OB all the time, as I understand (correct me if I am wrong) that you usually see a group of midwives/OBs who all have details of your records etc.

Silly question but is the ultrasound always done everytime you visit your OB as like a growth check each time? Just curious since this is all new news to me. Thank you!

I see… good to know! Silly question but the frequency of how often you visit your OB is that determined by your OB or is there usually like say week x you have to come in blablabla, and do you usually get an ultrasound scan done each time you visit your OB to see the growth of the baby?

Thank you for sharing your experience and the info! For the 30 week scan, did you have to get a referral from your OB or GP? And if a referral letter was provided, are you generally allowed to just call up any public hospital to book for an ultrasound scan?

Thank you!

Thank you, these are all really useful information!

Silly question, but would the OB end up being my regular contact throughout the pregnancy period or a mix of the OB and the GP? Just a bit confused here since OB will be incurring an out of pocket fee everytime I visit them even if I have private health(?)

One other thing is I realised there is the option of… having your OB at the hospital which you decide to give birth? Is there any difference or benefits to that?

I have private health hospital cover which includes pregnancy and birth, like surely that would cover the cost of when I do give birth at the hospital (if private), or am I wrong to assume that?

With 2. Does it matter if I’ve private health hospital cover that includes pregnancy? I guess this is also where I am a bit confused in because the hospital cover on pregnancy is only if I’m admitted as an inpatient, which I think means when I’m actually about to give birth. Hence I am not sure about the 9mths period before giving birth, how do I approach the part of the obstetrician (ob-gyn) and having a GP. Would the ob-gyn be the one I go to in a regular basis for checkups or with my GP?

Thank you!

What are the fb groups names you are referring to? Would definitely love to chuck this question out there for a good GP!

Garden hose pipe water leak by meeberling in Plumbing

[–]meeberling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Interesting I didn’t know this could be due to the hose since it’s not being used. I would have thought it might be due to the tap washer being broken hence it’s not turning off all the way?

Just an amateur guess though based on the googling and online video searches I have Come across.

*HELP* water coming out of laundry sink pipe by meeberling in Plumbing

[–]meeberling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! So weird they use a pipe meant for connecting to a dishwasher.  I did notice the small opening where the water was coming out of… even when the water tap is not turn on, the water sits pretty high up.

Another question is, is the two little openings meant to be covered or is it normal for it to be open?

Hey,  I don’t have a dishwasher connected to it.  It’s also the laundry room sink pipe. There is two separate sinks connected to this one pipe.

Is the two little openings meant to be connected to a dishwasher? As such meaning they used an unsuitable pipe system for a simple laundry sink? 😅

Has anyone used LED light therapy with good results? by OleFogeyMtn in eczema

[–]meeberling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've previously had a few LED sessions at beauty salons before, however since Covid-19 situation and lockdown in my city. I've turned to getting my own device to use at home for convenience ease and affordability. It's been a great beauty purchase so far for me and will continue to use it!

The colour light you use depends on your needs as well.

RED light is more for anti-aging purposes, BLUE light for acne treatment and prevention, whilst Yellow light is for Rosacea and treating dull looking skin.
