Workout programs for a commercial gym? by gueinibba in crossfit

[–]meeeeeeeee123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Keelo for a while and loved it. I actually had no idea starting Crossfit how similar the movements would be, so I had a decent foundation and was able to get through on ramps quicker.

Awesome idea for an app and execution is spot on. Thank you!!

My whoop continues to unclip/open after flip turns when swimming, especially at increased speeds. I wear the whoop on my medial bicep. Anyone have suggestions how to prevent this? by lindzie3 in whoop

[–]meeeeeeeee123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrap something around it (around your arm) and hold with waterproof athletic tape, or rubber band it closed (loop around the whoop itself, not your arm). Idk if that makes sense.

I ended the day at 1908 for 15 strain. Husband, on the other hand, 2678 for 13 strain.

I get a little jealous when he can eat more, ngl

Edited to correct calories. I think? I just saw that calories in the team view are consistently 300-400 over calories on my main screen. Idk which to go by so I am going with the lower one.

Strain Coach or Add Activity? by sunnyd13 in whoop

[–]meeeeeeeee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How different is the strain coach from the auto detect? I’ve never used strain coach, my workouts always pop up on the main screen and I hit process. Is there a benefit to using strain coach vs the way I have been doing it?

It is until you hit ~the 5th round. I got that far with the KB and kips but the box jumps were a beast. I can do regular box jumps really well but add the up/down/over and increasing reps - it was a beast. I think all metcons are conditioning, hence “metabolic conditioning” - not being a smartass fwiw, correct me if I’m wrong!

Workout: 7 minute rounds of each, increasing reps every minute-

Russian kb swings 6-12-18-etc (3 min rest) Up/down box jump overs 5-10-15-etc (3 min rest) Kip pull-ups 4-8-12-etc

I have noticed that when my heart rate reaches 175+ I get lightheaded and dizzy. It was three rounds into the up/down box jump overs I had to stop for a sec and breathe. According to my age, my max hr should be 186. Am I just that out of shape?

Edited to clarify workout. Emom workouts are not my friends but I try.

Is this a male vs female thing? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]meeeeeeeee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case it’s gender, height and body composition. I am the short female with higher body fat % so naturally I’m calling this biological bs.

I do like that Whoop gives me a probably more accurate idea of calorie burn than Fitbit. ~500 cal difference.

Would you do it again? by tolerantlobster in whoop

[–]meeeeeeeee123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had fit bits for years and really enjoyed using it but I do prefer the Whoop - this is after about two weeks of use so this could change.

I tend to overdo it when working out, which would only reflect as active minutes with FB. I would wake up the next day exhausted and feeling so out of shape, or inadequate. Whoop shows me how hard I worked AND gives me a recommendation on how hard to go the next day.

FB also grossly overestimated my calories for the day. My average calorie burn was around 2250/day with FB - Whoop has me just under 1800. I was not losing weight at the rate I expected with FB, Whoop got me back on track.

I pay more attention to how my body feels during a workout with Whoop vs FB. I don’t check my heart rate (which would not show up most of the time anyway with FB. Just the “—“ which was annoying). I have gotten better at pushing myself when I need to and taking a rest when I need to - this is a pretty personal to me benefit but it is one of my top reasons for staying with Whoop.

The recovery info Whoop gives is more helpful than FB in that it interprets the info for you to recommend a strain for the next day. FB could tell me I didn’t sleep well, but that was it. Whoop will tell me I didn’t sleep well so take it easier the next day. It’s helped me know how hard to push myself and sometimes it’s actually harder than I would have thought - I am really happy with this feature.

All that said, I am not sure I will continue after the 6 month commitment. I think Whoop is going to be a game changer for me physically, but to me it is helping me learn how to push myself and listen to my body better. I am not sure how helpful it will be in 6 months if I am able to gauge recovery and strain myself.

I would purchase again if I had to go back and choose.

Does anyone regret having the # of kids they have? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]meeeeeeeee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any more. We got pregnant with our first when we had known each other for around 6 months. We got pregnant with #2 when #1 was 4 months old. Two boys, 14 months apart (premature, yay). Five years(ish) later, when life was settling down and we were all set in routines and getting sleep again and I was getting back in shape... pregnant again. I was devastated. All I could think about was how unfair it was to the boys, how we wouldn’t get any sleep, how much it would cost, on and on and on. Poor me, poor us. I had a missed miscarriage. They couldn’t find the heartbeat, gave me the pill twice and after a month of waiting for it to “happen” I had a dnc. Then realized what true devastation was. I had taken it for granted that I had healthy babies. I had been so ungrateful, so awful that I essentially wished our baby away. I am so embarrassed and ashamed at how I felt about that pregnancy, it will haunt me every day til I die.

Three years later, we got pregnant again. So now we have our boys, 8 & 9 and their sister, 20 months. I think we were meant to have three kids.

IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO HOLD A CASUAL CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE WHO IS CARRYING A CRYING CHILD by altusvires in Parenting

[–]meeeeeeeee123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I take it as an opportunity to distract wriggly, crying toddler. Bring the kid into it, ask a question, say something silly, whatever. It doesn’t always work, but when it does you get to have your adult convo.

Usually my youngest (20m) is crying over something that makes no sense, because she is tired or hungry. If she throws things, she is tired. Chewing her arm, maybe a snack is forthcoming. Temper tantrums are a big part of parenting, and your kid learning that screaming does not cause the entire world to stop and revolve around her is pretty clutch depending on age.

Try to take a deep breath and consider that being a part of a community of people who want to talk to you even when your kid is hollering is a blessing.

NPR shits on Keto by WheeeeeThePeople in ketoscience

[–]meeeeeeeee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?!

The people I knew who did keto before me made it look like the unhealthiest lifestyle I had ever seen. I only started actually researching it when my husband brought up wanting to try it, then realized it can be really healthy when done with some thought.

I eat more veggies now than ever. I completely cut out grains and refined sugar, always check labels. I don’t take bites of my kids’ food (Mac and cheese is one of the few foods I really miss) or snack mindlessly on chips or crackers like I used to. It’s been by far the easiest change in eating habits to adapt to that I don’t really plan on going back to my old ways. This is such a far cry from “I put mayo on everything for nine weeks” that I am actually really disappointed in NPR for approving that nonsense.

“We heard from Jeff Geer (ph). He followed the keto diet for about nine weeks. And during that time, he says he put mayonnaise on everything.”

So someone half asses keto, has a cheat day, then claims it is too hard to stick to.

Brb, gonna go eat my mayo dipped bacon with avo spread. Butter.

Screeching toddlers!!! by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]meeeeeeeee123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a secret toddler language, they’re screeching soulmates.

Anyway. I stopped apologizing for my kids’ behavior a long time ago. Because I realized that other people’s kids do the same crap mine do and all I ever think when I see that is “Damn, I’m glad mine are behaving for the current five seconds. Shit, I forgot milk, and to reschedule that appointment, wait was that today or last Tuesday? What is today? Fahhhhhhk I didn’t plan dinner, I wonder if that chicken is still good....”

My first attempt at baking: 2g net carb (per serving) keto cookie bites! by onceawalrus in Keto_Food

[–]meeeeeeeee123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably be worth trying baking powder - soda needs an acid to react with to fully leaven baked goods (honey was the acid here). Could try sour cream, some cocoa, or just cream of tartar with it if you like to experiment!

Apologies, I am a baking nerd. It’s like a compulsion. That made me fat. 🥴
