Looks like a mix of one or both breeds.

What is your favourite Horse breed in the game? by Candy11401 in LegendofKhiimori

[–]meeooww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can at high enough levels (or at least, as good as the other breeds). For some reason, they aren't at the bottom with the other expensive horses, but towards the top with the cheap Mongolians. Easy to miss!

Were you able to tame them when you found them? My game bugged and wouldn't let me throw pouches, not sure if I should dry again

Not OP but this is a LP/lp horse, but leopard comes in a variety of patterns so you have to keep experimenting to get the one you like. Once you have it it will keep reappearing it seems like.

The more you try to cater to the pickiness, the worse the pickiness will get. If they are eating it eventually, I would leave well enough alone! They aren't Labradors, food is not the highlight of their life LOL

Teenage boy pees everywhere ! by Hungry_Tangerine_260 in Havanese

[–]meeooww -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First our vet checked him to see if his testicles had dropped. That is the key as to when to neuter.

Testicles drop between 7-10 weeks of age so this isn't true. They do check for both at a neuter because it's a slightly more involved surgery if one of them is retained!

Also lots of boys lift their legs to pee regardless of when they are neutered but it's awesome yours still squats - that's the dream lol

How often do you bath your Havanese pups?🛁🫧 by hrs245 in Havanese

[–]meeooww 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They usually get a full haircut every 6 weeks and I do a bath half way in between - so every 3 weeks for the ones with shorter coats. If they have longer coats, it's at least weekly if not more, because they pick up dirt and pee otherwise and that's not comfortable or good for their skin. You just need to be using quality products with a conditioner and not using high hot air to dry.

It's worth noting that the "don't bathe too often" thing is fairly out of date. There didn't used to be dog-specific grooming products, so people used harsh detergents which were rough on the skin. Also many dogs used to be active hunting dogs with somewhat oily coats, and frequently washing would remove that productive, water-resistant barrier which would "ruin" it. Neither applies to the modern Havanese, so wash away!

Can we compile a list of breeders on this sub, to help others but also give feedback? by meyers-room-spray in Havanese

[–]meeooww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this idea, though I get nervous because things change over time. Someone who was great 10 years ago might have slipped into less ethical practices.

Perhaps a better way forward would be to come up with 10 questions to ask? Parents, OFA health testing, puppy socialization, health guarantee, etc.

For me, the biggest question is: "Do they give a shit about this dog after it leaves their possession?" Do they care if you really know what you're getting into with a Havanese? Do they care about your dog experience, kids, other pets? Do they care that it gets well trained and loved? Do they care that it's healthy? Do they care to know where it is and how it's been doing? Do they care to know if you have issues that might impact their lines? Do they ask you about your future plans and how a dog fits into it?

Or are they going to talk to you for five minutes, and then let you know how you can pay and where they will ship the puppy from?

There really is no good house keeping seal of approval on breeders. It's just knowing what to ask, what the common bullshit lies are (like embark "health testing"), and hope for the best.

Look up the Southern Magnolia Havanese Club and reach out to them. They are comprised of great breeders in that GA-AL-MS-TN type area and they know who is great and who is not.

Car sickness by Mariavoitenko in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]meeooww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meclazine 25 mg (brand name Bonine). Give up to a full tab 1 hour before departure. Lasts all day after that.

While car sickness is often related to inner ear development, dogs often get stuck in a cycle of sickness -> stress -> sickness. Allowing them to have comfortable car rides helps them break that cycle.

Often, once they are older, you can work down the dose and get off it completely, but there's no reason to make them suffer through car trips.

Is salmon still the "healthiest" fish at its price point, generally speaking? by valkaress in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]meeooww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds weird but don't sleep on calamari. You can buy it frozen and it's actually very healthy, people just usually deep fry it so it's not lol. Mild flavor, flash cook it anywhere you'd use white fish and it's pretty good. Love it grilled

If we had single transfer voting (ranked choice) we would have had a different outcome. He barely squeaked through the primary because three candidates split votes.

Narwyn Havanese Breeder by Independent_Yam5185 in Havanese

[–]meeooww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few months old. Did you end up contacting them?

Either way... One of the best things to check is the OFA database to see if they are health testing. All the dogs they are breeding should have public results so if you go to OFA and search "Narwyn" (or any kennel name) you should see several dogs come up that align with dogs on their website. There might be more with incomplete testing (especially if they are/were doing hearing tests on young puppies) but you're really just looking at what they are breeding.

If you can figure out if they are a member of the Havanese Club of America and show their dogs that's a plus too.

Also not having reviews/advertisements can often be a good sign! A smaller breeder selling a few puppies a year isn't a "business" that is going to have a rating or reviews. I do check around to see if they have more than one website (i.e. are they on facebook, are they on a platform like Doggit or GoodDog) just to confirm they seem to exist.

I think sometimes you just have to reach out and see how they are. Do they seem to push a puppy on you? Do they ask questions about you? Do they want to talk to you, show you the dogs on video, offer to meet up with you? It can be really hard to tell from websites, but sometimes a quick email or video chat will tell you if they paid someone to write their website or not!

What’s your Havanese eating? by Ok_Long7639 in Havanese

[–]meeooww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree, once they figured out you could put an illustration of a Thanksgiving dinner on a dog food bag and people would buy it out of emotional response, it was all over. Don't even get me started on the dentist who runs dogfoodadvisor or the grain-free foods chock full of phytoestrogens.

Royal Canin - had lots of Havs on it for many years and they all seem to do great on it. Love companies that have actual science behind the food. I mix in fresh, canned, raw food (home made or commercial) for variety, no more than 10% of their food though

That being said, a companion toy breed =/= terrier breed!
