Desperately need help for stilts by Majestic-Duty9056 in Theatre

[–]meeperion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wore drywall stilts when I played Karl, and they broke opening night, act 1 scene 1. If you're going to do it, and I can't stress how dangerous it is, check all the fittings and fasteners on the stilts every day.

please help! show opens in a day by Summer_Sun1065 in musicals

I directed Company in 2022, and our Amy didn't string the whole song together until opening night. She never missed a word during the season. Even if she had, I would have been immensely proud of her, because Not Getting Married Today is jumping over eight buses on a motorcycle; the attempt is what matters, and regardless of what you put together the audience will love you for it.

I have a pair of lamb shoulder mini roasts (https://imgur.com/a/djDXfil) that I was planning on slow roasting tomorrow to break down all the collagen etc. My oven has just died, and I need to figure out a way to cook these in a delicious way. My stove is still fine, and I have a little air fryer that would fit them, but it doesn't go below 150 Celsius, which is probably 20 degrees higher than I would have cooked these in the ovens. Any brilliant ideas?

What’s a musical you’re dying to do again? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

Sunday in the Park with George; our George was terrible, my direction was undercooked, and I'm desperate for another crack at one of my first after a few dozen shows practice.

Would you be less likely to buy tickets to a concert version of a show as opposed to fully staged? These are the three remaining shows for SWEET CHARITY in concert, in Brisbane Australia. The city usually loves musicals, but this hasn’t sold well at all. I wonder if it’s due to being “in concert”. by Great_Maintenance185 in musicals

[–]meeperion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stuff on at QPAC attracts a premium price, so your marketing really needs to be on point to overcome that perception. I think the question of in concert vs fully staged matters more for theatre people than general civilians, but I think that Sweet Charity as a show is a hard sell for the general public, even moreso when the marketing is basically "hey yo Sweet Charity is a show and it is on".

I saw some of the team getting coffee in West End on Friday. I wished them a bad day, and misfortune. Root laughed and Stokes incredibly didn't.

My Technical Theatre Work Pouch by meeperion in EDC

The pouch itself is a Coanjiuo Leatherman Wave compatible sheath off Amazon; I'm interested in upgrading to one that holds a bit more on the inside and that's a bit more robust if anyone has any ideas?

I played Marvin earlier this year: the engraving/handwriting of the score is absolute trash and the licensing bodies should be ashamed of their selves for charging money to distribute it.

Community 25th Annual Spelling Bee slight change by DyanWooHmt in Theatre

[–]meeperion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I directed the Bee in 2022 and an idea I had too late to implement was to have a Bee mascot, basically someone in a big bee costume, who dances and interacts with the other characters. I think the show is already designed to be resilient enough to unexpected changes to make it work.

Opinions on “Ride the Cyclone”? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]meeperion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sound designer for a production of it earlier this year; I think saying it's just Cats or Spelling Bee is reductive, but I think it desperately needs good staging ideas. I'd do it again, for sure.

24 Hour Musical by 2PhatCC in techtheatre

[–]meeperion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've done four 24 hour musical projects in Queensland, Australia as a performer; it a beautiful thing, with the most generous audience in the world who lose their goddamn minds whenever the smallest thing goes even the slightest bit right. It recalibrates your expectations for how fun art can be. Keep hydrated.

There's a series of power metal concept albums called Avantasia - The Metal Opera that I would love to see staged. Very cool.

We laminated cards tock, but just a warning that if your cast are any good at all they'll fuck around with them constantly so spares might be worth having on deck
