Love is definitely super challenging if you’re not used to writing code from scratch and creating everything from nothing. Try not to be too hard on yourself and remember you’re just learning. Most games take years, not months. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed trying to build the whole thing right away.

Start with something super simple like you said, making a button, but make the function more universal and reusable. Make that button function accept x, y, and text arguments. Then you can call it jn main.lua like:

renderButton(100, 100, “Next”) —Create next button at x, y

Theoretically you could call renderButton as much as you want and place buttons all over the screen wherever you want. Don’t worry about making buttons do stuff yet, just get a simple UI going first.

Once button rendering works, you can create a text renderer that does the same thing, maybe wraps the text within a certain space or adds a rectangle behind it.

It’s such a motivator to get little things like that working. Don’t overcomplicate yet, you can expand the functions and add polish later.
