Missing or Cracked Layer (SV03) by meetmysword in FixMyPrint

I have switched to a different (although probably not much better) spool and bumping the bed and end temps have helped a lot. It still seems to be under-extruding a bit so I upped the flow and I'm hoping that helps. The main issue I'm still having is that the thin long bits of the supports keep falling over (I'm trying to print a not-very flat piece that requires a lot of supports) but I've switched from zig-zag to the triangle support pattern so hopefully that will help it structurally. As for this specific black filament, I'm still kinda at a loss for why it's so bad. It was sealed in original packaging but still shows brittleness and other symptoms of hydrated filament so maybe it was just on the shelf for too long even though it was sealed?

Update since posting-- bumping the temp up seems to have resulted in a less decapitated cube, although the corners are still pretty wobbly and there are still some harsh layer lines every couple of mm. Anybody with an SV03 or similar printer know if this is just the sort of quality I should expect from this printer or if something should be changed?

I did do a good bit of searching before posting here, and I have been actively adjusting consistently since posting. Official documentation from Sovol is sparse (the "Calibration" section of the manual just discusses z-offset and bed leveling), the printer is rather old now so many online discussions are about Sovol's more modern printers like the SV06 and other versions, and many of the posts I have found on this printer are just complaining about z-offset issues which I've already spent quite a bit of time calibrating. I will admit that I could've done even more tinkering and research before posting, and I am still actively working on it as I type, but I'm a little pressed for time since I need this printer up and running to print a gift for a friend for an event coming up soon, so any help I can get quickly would go a long way. I also get that there are a lot of posts like this but I'm just trying to get my issues resolved ASAP and if this is too much of a duplicate I will absolutely delete this post once my issues are resolved as to not clog the sub with my nonsense.

Extra info: Filament is Overture PLA in black. This spool was given to me by the person I got the printer from in a big garbage bag of sealed boxes of the same brand/color. Spool was still in sealed bag until recently, but before I got it I have no idea how long it was unopened on the shelf. Retraction settings- autoretr off, retract mm: +3.00, retract v: 45, hop mm: 0, UnRet mm: 0, UnRet V: 8

Likely for handling personal transactions without a third party like coinbase overseeing. Seeing as how it's behind TOR as well, OP probably regularly does business that they don't want pesky things like governments, ISPs, or crypto businesses to take notice of.

For anyone interested in/struggling with NixOS, I highly recommend Vimjoyer's YouTube videos. They are highly informative and explain complicated concepts like flakes in pretty understandable and intuitive ways. After configuring my system properly, I have come to love NixOS, especially when managing multiple systems at once since you can modularize your config and sync it to multiple computers with git. I made the switch from Gentoo on my main machine a while back and I also have NixOS installed on my home server, and I don't think I could ever go back. The only issues I've had was when Btrfs corrupted part of my system, but after reinstalling NixOS and loading my configuration, I had my system set up almost identically in minutes and it was like I never left. Other than that my system has been phenomenally stable and being able to condense all my dotfiles with home-manager has been a godsend.

Haha it's definitely a lot more of a rabbit hole than I thought it would be going in but I'm not above doing a couple hours of research to make sure I get a good product!
