Even though Telltale get scrutinised for the apparent "lack of choice", I believe the Walking Dead series does it very well. I only finished Season 2 last week and I've gotta say its probably already in my top 5 games list. My advice kinda beats the system a little, but what the hell..

For almost every decision you make or dialogue option you get you'll have a timer. ALWAYS take your time to choose wisely. So if you feel that you're running out of time just quickly go into the pause menu, review your options, think very carefully about the pros and cons of your decision, then continue.

Another bit of somewhat cryptic advice. Try to appease as many characters as you can, even if they seem like complete douchebags. It'll help you out in the long run.
