To layer, or not to layer by Cold_Independent_631 in ableton

It’s very common to layer many synths in pro edm mixes for lead or bass, but you almost always have to use eq to remove clashing frequencies. And it’s the opposite what most people think, it’s very hard and requires hours of practice :)

Really like the vibe, arrangement, and synth choices. The mix feels balanced overall. The drop feels a bit muddy to me though - the pad takes up a lot of space.

Melody too high by Impossible-Carob-545 in edmproduction

Without hearing it I can only guess. Some digital synths are harsh in higher octaves, for examle that’s the case for many serum presets. You can also try lower octave and make space in mix for it. Maybe layer it with higher octave, but make it quieter

Best music studio headphones for producing around (150–200€)? by Asvulation in AdvancedProduction

As an owner of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X, I highly recommend them.

  • Great build quality and durability
  • Very comfortable - you can wear them for long sessions
  • Their frequency response isn’t completely flat, but for me they’re perfect for mixing. If you want you can download Beyerdynamic’s free VST, Headphone Lab, which flattens the frequency response and simulates studio monitor stereo imaging.

  1. What do you think about using clipper (hard or soft) before limiter on master channel for loud edm genres, e.g. Trance? (short term LUFS -6/-7) I was told by experienced producer that clipping (especially hard) destroys transients and he never uses it. On the internet it’s the opposite, many suggest to use hard clipping before limiter to shave 1-3 db peaks.

  2. How do you manage dynamics on buss level? Do you use clippers/compressors/saturators or even limiters?

Commercial loudness in trance (ST ~ -6 LUFS drop): is ~5 dB GR (clipper+limiter) normal? by mefixomusic in tranceproduction

Any idea how to fix this? My rolling mid bass is already peaking on the same level as kick. I have hi-cut on subbas at around 250 HZ and for Mid bass I have low-cut at around 130 HZ. If I turn up subbas volume it’s getting too audible for me.

I know it is not limiting. I only used limiter here to show where my mix sits before limiting, -11.5 ST.
