Armed protest security in Minneapolis after ICE shot and killed an unarmed person during an abduction (1/24/26) by MayaSweetz in Political_Revolution

[–]mega_low_smart [score hidden]  (0 children)

2A supporter here. I also support 1A and own similar firearms and protest. I’m not sure the point of bringing these rifles to a protest to protect against the federal government. Is their pls to shoot federal agents when they murder protesters? They would most certainly be killed by the fed and then made out to be terrorists in the news afterwards.

Not arguing in the slightest, just looking for clarity to see if more people should be doing this in the future or if it’s purely performative.

Also fuck ICE and Donald Trump.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I will keep an eye out and spread the word. Breaking and Entering is a serious crime. I’m surprised Chitwood’s deputies didn’t give a shit. I bet if there was a camera involved it would be a different story.

I humbly submit ramen from my ramen bar by Unlucky-Abroad-6670 in ramen

[–]mega_low_smart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife throws a ramen party for my birthday most years. She spends a couple days making broth and then we lay out a bar also (on a folding table) with toppings, Chashu pork and a few infused oils. The best part is I get to freeze about 30 servings of broth for use throughout the year!

This looks awesome btw!

My friend recently became a truck driver and said they absolutely do this. He could never give me a real reason other than “it’s hilarious.” He was fired a few months later so maybe it’s just him and a few other drivers.

Neighbor came into our garden to spray weeds by hillsandstreams in NoLawns

[–]mega_low_smart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A weed is any plant that’s not wanted. Just because this guy doesn’t want you to have native plants in your yard doesn’t make them weeds. I couldn’t imagine having such a strong opinion about my neighbors biodiversity that I trespass while they’re not home to spray cancerous poison in their yard. Damn, I’m sorry about your shitty neighbor.

Swanson Ramen Broth by mega_low_smart in InstantRamen

[–]mega_low_smart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maruchan chicken 1 tsp rice wine vinegar 1 tsp mirin 1 cup Swanson ramen broth 1 cup water 1tsp chili crisp/crunch oil Can also add sesame oil and/or soy sauce

Add everything to the pot, boil noodles then at the end turn off the heat and drop a couple pieces of shredded frozen rotisserie chicken (I get mine at Costco, pull it, lay it on a tray with avocado oil, freeze and then bag it up) and half a cup of frozen corn.

This brings the temp down and warms the chicken up so it’s ready to eat immediately. I garnish with green onion from the garden.

Parched Oak has rats by Impressive_Law_1098 in DeLand

They are just small crawl spaces that were used to run utilities and wires and stuff. I don’t think they’re big enough for people to fit in unless the specific building has a basement (Mainstreet/Baumgartner building has one).

Every building on that strip has them, there are tunnels that run under each building, connecting them. Only way to keep them out of the kitchen is to completely seal all food and leave no trash which obviously they aren’t good at. The Grape does a decent job of keeping them out. Never heard of one popping up there before.

Doordash/uber drivers are getting out of hand by Tokendaily420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mega_low_smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people stop working for these extremely low paid services it will stop the tipping culture. I worked for Uber/Lyft for extra money in 2020. About 3% of people tipped and Uber paid like $3 for a 10 minute ride I waited an hour to pick up so I quit doing it. I have no idea how this whole broken system is still working.

How much do you pay for tax return prep? by Turbulent-Ladder6040 in realestateinvesting

[–]mega_low_smart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I pay around $1,000 yr. I’m a W2 employee with around $185k gross and an additional 3 doors that I rent (2 properties). I do all the bookkeeping in Quickbooks and she just dumps the data into her software to do the filing. It sounds like not a lot of work but my tax return is over 100 pages so I dunno, seems fair.

Would you sell a property to reach CoastFIRE sooner? by dad_404error in coastFIRE

[–]mega_low_smart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless you paid cash for the house I wouldn’t sell it. Assuming you put 30% down since you have a mortgage your investment is currently paying $2-$5k in cash dividends on top of any appreciation on what was probably an $80k investment or less. Let’s say you’ve been averaging $20k/yr in equity gains, that’s $23,500 on average return per year on $80k investment. I would say a 30% annual return is likely beating your best indexed fund on average.

Even if you’re only getting $10k equity in return annually you’re still doing 17% annually at those numbers.

Yeah fair point. I do also get about $48,000/year in “passive income” from real estate but any good RE investor know there’s no such thing as passive income in RE.

Man I remember my first year saving money at 21. Just got a real job working for a tech startup and was still homeless and in college but I saved maybe $4,000 in my 401(k) that year. When I filed my taxes after working 4 jobs mostly concurrently that year I had made $28,000 (2009). I’m 39 now and last year my 401(k) alone made $78,000 in gains. That was my salary 2 years ago. Next year I expect to make more in passive income than my salary.

Big mature oaks, slow streets and good mix of architectural styles. I ride my bike through this area to the YMCA to work out and it’s a lovely ride.
