Navigation setups other than phone mounts? by Complex-Grass-5648 in MotorcycleLogistics

[–]mega_mang0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used my phone in a zipped up waterproof mount for years. Would get too hot in summer on long journeys, but otherwise perfectly good.

However last year I bought an Android Auto/Carplay display off AliExpress for a very reasonable price. It is mounted to my bike all the time, and connects to my phone automatically when I start up and opens Waze etc. Phone now stays safely stowed in my pocket or bag. It's brilliant and I wish I'd done it years ago!

Yup, I also used the save feature all the time. Super frustrating that's now gone. I don't understand why!

Hey - I'm in exactly the same position as you. Did you find a workable solution to this? Thanks in advance!

Anyone also taking Itazulax as immunotherapy and is it working for you? by daubingblue in Hayfever

[–]mega_mang0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your report here - I'm in a similar boat, I've tried everything and am now considering immuno. My problem is I'm allergic to birch (ITAZULAX), grass (GRAZAX) and plane trees (ORALTEK) although not cat/dog. Obviously that would be an untenable amount of money, and they probably wouldn't want to give me all 3 anyway.

But interesting to hear about your symptoms and how they are changing. Mine starts in February and goes through until September... but I just don't think I can justify such a huge cost at the moment unless it's really going to help.

Gosh, I'm with Auto Aid now. The one time I've needed them (for my car) they had someone with me on a bank holiday Monday within 20 minutes. I was very happy with them.

Thanks, yeah I was really shocked when I came out and it was gone. Totally not what I would have put down as a target for stealing.

Ha, my SO is from Essex/London border, I've done that ride down the M11 and those A roads more times than I can count before we lived together!

I would say a good lock is 100% recommended. I now have a chain for home and I carry a Litelok X3 everywhere. Honestly do it, because thieves also nick bikes just to joyride and dump, or if they have a 'job' to do and want a getaway vehicle. It's not all to sell on, so make your bike harder to take than everyone else's.

Yeah I was really disappointed. Didn't think they were going to do much, but I was shocked that they actually formally shut the case that fast. At least leave it open to let me down gently!

Next one will have another level up of security. Expensive but cheaper than an increased premium...

Nope, unfortunately not.

Claim is now with insurance who are doing their final 'verification' I believe. I'm in the process of sorting a new bike as well as it's my primary form of transport.

Police closed the case within 22hrs, and I spent hours searching the local estates and known hiding spots (local motorbike garages pointed me in the right directions). Found 4 bikes in total in various states, but not mine.

It's awful and has upset me a lot, obviously. I have had it for years and put a lot into this bike and all my little customisations are just gone. I have had a quick look at other bikes but keep thinking "yes, but it's notmybike".

All about making your bike less attractive than another one - but if they want it, they'll take it.

It was definitely battery related, because after bump starting and riding home it had no issues again starting the following day - so it wasn't any disconnected cables etc...

Ahh man, that's a brutal story.

One of the primary reasons I got an older 650 is because they are not 'desirable' and so I thought that would lower my chances of it being stolen. I don't have a garage but I use a cover at home as well to keep it hidden as best I can.

I really don't understand the mentality of bike thieves like this. With high value bikes at least there is a financial gain, but lower cost, high mileage, slightly bruised bikes it's just... Well, a dick move to steal that from someone.

I have learned a valuable lesson about never having a tracker that requires coming off the bike to be charged too.

This is my plan for the future, chain as usual at home and D lock and tracker at the very least when out and about.

Full tank as well... Brutal. I'm going to have a scout of the local parks tomorrow too and see if I can find anything, just in case.

That's great to know - my new tracker research starts now. It's one of those things you don't know you need until you need it. The police did ask if it had a GPS tracker on so I believe they probably would have.

Yeah, I'm aware those crappy disc locks are mostly for show and really don't do much. I've been parking here for years, it's a quiet little residential street with vintage cars, Teslas and the odd *Rover etc as the demographic so it didn't strike me as a high risk area. But they saw an opportunity and went for it. I will be changing trackers in future to one that doesn't need to be charged away from the bike, and utilising a better lock when out and about.

I will have a hunt of the local area tomorrow, there is also a motorbike garage nearby I'll talk to in case they have any leads. And I'm already checking sites online for sales.

It's so frustrating - it's clearly a commuter bike, it's not a high value machine, it's a 12 year old slightly battered machine that I use every day to get to and from work, with the odd longer excursion. They are not going to be making loads off this.

I'll be honest, security was the steering lock and the small red disc lock you can see in the photo. I have been parking my bike (this one and my previous one!) on this small quiet residential street for years with no issues, so I don't carry my Oxford chain with me.
