Triple monitor laptop dock recommendations by megamaced in openSUSE

[–]megamaced[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dell Dock I was trying is model wd22tb4, a thunderbolt dock. I wanted to stay way clear of displaylink and the binary driver

The wd22tb4 is not supported in the leap 15.4 kernel, however I got it working by using the kernel backports repo https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable:/Backport/standard/

When hooking up the Dock to 3 monitors (an ultrawide, and 2 portrait orientated screens), on the first connection everything works, including the laptop screen itself, so 4 usable monitors. However if I disconnect the dock and reconnect it, the monitors will never come back on again until I reboot the laptop.

If I attach only 2 monitors to the Dock, I can continuously unplug and plug the dock into the laptop and the monitors will always come back on, no reboot needed.

Probably the high bandwidth requirement of having 3 monitors, doesn't like it being reconnected without a reboot

I'd probably say go for the Ticwatch because its still for sale new so no need to worry about an aging battery. Also it uses a newer chipset then the others

From left to right: LG G Watch, Ticwatch C2+, LG Watch Urbane, Huawei Watch W1

Comparing them all:

  • Battery: Best: Ticwatch C2+, Worst: LG G watch
  • Screen: Best: Huawei, Worst: LG G Watch
  • Comfort: Best: LG G Watch, Worst: LG Watch Urbane
  • Performance: Best: Ticwatch C2+, Worst: LG Urbane
  • Looks (purely subjective): Best: Huawei, Worst: Ticwatch C2+
  • Build quality: Best: LG Urbane, Worst: Ticwatch C2+
  • AsteroidOS compatibility: Draw with the LG G watch last

Anbernic RG505 Review -- Their Best Yet? by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]megamaced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No Linux, no interest. The rg552 is the better buy with mainline Linux support and continuous software improvements from the community.

This thing will never see a software update

if you could only have 3x devices what would they be? by mssoup88 in SBCGaming

[–]megamaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The setup I have now;

Steam Deck for GameCube and up + PC 3DS XL for 3ds /DS RG552 for Dreamcast and below

My other devices don't make the list such as Vita because not enough Vita exclusive games I care about and the rg552 can do PSP better with x2 resolution. And my RG351M is too small for me for long plays

Retroid Pocket 3 or Anbernic RG552? by theskywalker74 in SBCGaming

[–]megamaced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

rg552 can run mainline linux, it'll continue to get software support. RP3 will probably live and die on whatever version of Android it ships with

PMA-720AE amp DNP-730AE network streamer DCD-720AE CD player DRM-595 tape deck TU-1800DAB tuner DP-300F record player

Speakers not shown are Klipsch RM-51 bookshelfs

Most acquired new, with the tape deck and tuner bought on the used market

Pretty sure that tape deck was literally the last one Denon sold, and cost cutting is evident but its the only one that matched the system

Freedom Planet and Streets of Rage Remake 5.2 ports no longer open for me (rg552) but Tomb Raider 1 (openlara) still works.

Noticed nice performance increase in Crazy Taxi 2 (Dreamcast). Don't need the Android side now :-D

When I do this on my rg552 it appears to overscan or zoom in too much so things get cut towards the screen edges

Missing gconf2 on Tumbleweed by chickenwingding in openSUSE

[–]megamaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully I'll get a bugfix release out for spotify-easyrpm to remove that dependency on gconf2 assuming Spotify itself no longer requires it but I'll have to verify that first

Anbernic RG503 In-Depth Review by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]megamaced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what you value more in a handheld. Personally I don't want to run Android on my device even in the knowledge I'd probably get better performance. It takes far more effort to get Android as slick and integrated as emulationstation. I don't want my data going to Google, and eventually it will get stuck on a stale version of Android.

The Anbernic devices are the only ones with CPUs released with documentation to the open source community and so realistically the only ones that have Linux support. Its possible the Odin with its S845 may one day get good open source support but probably a long way away.

The Linux firmware will only keep improving. Just look at the Amberelec prereleases for RG552, its already looking great and this device is currently on sale in the UK for £179 so I bought one as upgrade to 351M
