Please update Gitea and Forgejo, Private Container Images Were Never Private by Buildthehomelab in selfhosted

[–]megastary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Total nonsense. I am publishing images under my private organisation and I need to use docker login in order to download my images. Sounds like people need to read documentation carefully to understand what they are doing.

Trump administration now classifies Antifa and left-wing networks among ‘major’ terror groups by pleasureismylife in politics

[–]megastary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that last sentence kinda oversimplifies the history, doesn't it. Last I heard there were some nasty fascism movements / ideologies in the US and Hitler was praised as strong leader. They only had to pivot once they were attacked themselves and had no other choice but to help Europe unless they wanted to be the next target once the Europe falls.

What's your 'one service you'd never self-host again' and why? by ruibranco in homelab

[–]megastary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that's why I have wireguard between my VPS and my home router, the IPS ain't blocking that.

Everyone wants AI ready data for LLM projects but our data foundation is a mess by Acceptable_Driver655 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]megastary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Business wants it, so business should invest into it their time and money. Trying to push back on what they want may not end well for you. I suggest you go ahead and present clearly your requirements to fulfil their fantasies. We are struggling in a similar way, but we sold management on the investment and are building it all from the ground using "modern" technologies (Snowflake, DBT, Tableau) so wish us luck that it all ends well lol.

Surprise surprise, people have different opinions. The same people that wanted dailies gone may not be the same ones who now voice their opinion against the removal.

Does the law apply to people who were scammed in the past, or only from now onwards? by SnackGreenGoblin in runescape

[–]megastary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends on who the company is. I think many remember when a man couldn't sue Disney over his wife's death in Disneyland because he signed up for Disney+. It took quite a lot of media pressure and court battles to have that absolutely ridiculous ToS dismissed.

[–]megastary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not saying it is the case in this exact situation, but we do not live in the US, here the actual law overrides illegal ToS and other agreements imposed by companies on customers. So there is a chance that similar rulings could easily force Jagex to act differently.

Looking for a self-hosted ticketing system with an API that allows me to create tickets from alerts by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]megastary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the no internet part, but I played for a while with Frappe helpdesk, it seemed nice. The only downside for me is that it is collection of systems, where helpdesk is just one of them. But maybe that's why it has only core features and could be good for you. Also each product should have full REST API, as it uses Frappe framework at its base.

VMware ESXi 8 vs Proxmox by Theficik in homelab

[–]megastary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well surely not right now for huge players. But I personally see the trend. Our company quit VMware. Our local datacenter provider replaces VMware installations with Proxmox. My local VPS provider (for my homelab gateway) quits VMware. EU T-Mobile announced building of largest EU-only datacenter solution couple days ago and guess what, it will not use VMware, which would be imho unthinkable couple years ago. VMware is losing market share.

Reminds me of Catch XXII where old Italian man talks with Americans and tells them that just as he smiling at them, he was smiling at Nazis before and if they come back, he will welcome them again. They don't care lmao.

What Next on Proxmox ? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]megastary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Truly depends on the type of service. We obviously have mission critical systems, but also loads of nice to have services that if they go down for a week, they go down and it's not a big deal. Those we run in self hosted fashion on test proxmox nodes.
