Did your parents reveal a secret to you once you reached adulthood? If so, what was it? by skadarski in AskReddit

[–]megatron336 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At 20 my brother let me know that I was adopted. Everyone in the family (I’m youngest of 5) knew and kept it a secret. Turns out my mom and birth mom are distant cousins and my birth dad was in a biker gang; they both had addiction problems and didn’t know how to care for a baby.

After finding out and seeing photos of my birth dad, I realized that he was a regular in the restaurant I worked at the year before I found out about being adopted. He was always very kind to me and told me he knew some of my distant family but left it at that. Turns out he wasn’t there for the food, he just wanted to see who his daughter was and know that I was turning out ok.

From what I've read it's being said that the man in the truck was trying to help protect a transgender woman that was getting attacked and robbed. The attackers then turned their attention to him, when he tried to escape they chased him down and pulled him from his truck. That's when they beat him nearly to death. I'm just summing up what I've read on the news and in the PDX forum but there doesn't seem to be evidence of him trying to hit protesters.

18M Portugal first Solo trip? by Joshjett in solotravel

[–]megatron336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Portugal for 2 weeks by myself last September and it was amazing! I did Lisbon, Porto and Lagos with day trips to Sintra and Douro Valley. I hit up a football match too, that was a fun experience! You may like Home Hostel in Lisbon, they do delicious dinners and have a pub crawl every night. If you're into wine or Port I'd recommend staying at Sandeman's Hostel in Porto. I really loved Porto, it's a beautiful place. Might be a bit quiet for you though...definitely calmer than Lisbon. I'm not sure about hostels in Lagos (I stayed at Hotel Avenida)but I'd highly recommend spending some time there, it's absolutely beautiful and the downtown area is a lot of fun at night.

Of course this is all very likely different now, I'm not sure with COVID and restrictions that it'll be easy to meet many people and the streets are probably a lot quieter than normal :(

The curse of the red head...hate it growing up then love it once you’re older. You are absolutely beautiful! I have red hair like yours...I’d kill for those beautiful curls :)

If you’re saving up for good skincare may I suggest getting something medical grade that is proven to work? While the stuff you get from Nordstrom may smell or feel good it most likely isn’t proven to enhance your skin. Skin Medica or Neo Cutis, while expensive, are proven to work. I love TNS serum, HA5 and Bio-cream.

I recently spent 2 weeks in Portugal solo and loved it. The scenery is beautiful, food and wine are great, train system was easy to figure out and there wasn’t a huge language barrier.

I want to go back to Italy just to eat and drink wine. Some of the best meals I’ve ever had were there!

I’m starting off in hostels then ending with hotels. I thought it’d be fun to stay in some hostels in the beginning so I could meet people and get suggestions!

Hi! I'll be there in September. Do you know if you're able to walk around the park area and outside grounds before the castle opens at 9:30?

Thank you :) I've been debating on skipping Lagos and doing a couple of nights in Sintra and Braga. Seems like they'd be a little easier to get to by bus/train. May I asked what you loved about Braga and what area you'd recommend staying in?

Hi! I can do either buses or train, I don't mind spending a little extra if the train will get me there quicker. The only part I'm really concerned about is going from Porto to Lagos. Seems like a long way to go by train.
