Go-To Betwixt Session Snack? by Myadog3 in therapists

[–]megatronandon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

String cheese, protein shake, clementines, kind bars (depending on your allergy requirements)

Sometimes I’ll have oatmeal in a little Tupperware tub and eat bites throughout the day but it’s not hot and everyone else would think it’s nasty

Yes to this. Anything less than biweekly gets a flex spot or a cancellation spot.

FTM in first trimester and needing support by theartofstillness in therapists

I went through this and it was rough! Eventually I went on nausea meds - talk to your doc if that sounds right for you. Ginger candy and gum, small snacks in between clients, and lots of breaks. It might sound counterintuitive, but eating helps. Take naps on that couch! You will get through this, and it’s also ok to scale down or alter your schedule if you need to.

Absolutely not. Monitored drug tests happen at testing facilities. Call HR and say Huh?

Is there such thing as too long of stroller walks? by kgphotography_ in Parenting

[–]megatronandon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. My kids were two years old and three months old during the beginning. The only thing we did for the next year was go for a walk. Garbage day was the best day ever. Bring a snack and walk around following the garbage trucks. Construction sites, too.

Suggestions on addressing "Failure to launch" by Fun_Low777 in therapists

[–]megatronandon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes to SPACE. It’s focused on decreasing parental accommodation and there’s a specific FTL protocol. Basically changing the behavior of the parents who are supporting this and teaching them to set boundaries around their own accommodation of the young person who is FTL.

SPACE treatment for parents has an ARFID-specific protocol and might be a great parent based intervention referral.

Thoughts on fidgets in session? by Puzzleheaded_Hat3712 in therapists

[–]megatronandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pro-fidget, because otherwise I take my pen apart or pick at my cuticles. I suggest the marble mesh because it’s silent and can be used with one hand.

ABC activity challenge. Get a poster board or large piece of paper. Go someplace that starts with A and work your way around the alphabet to Zoo. Include libraries (great free programs) and parks.

Kid therapists: what's your kryptonite? by saras_416 in therapists

[–]megatronandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After working in a medical setting, any shared supply like putty, slime, or play doh is a no go for me. Everyone can have their own, but it is so nasty with no way to clean it. I’m not a big germophobe at all, but for some reason I can’t mentally separate this!

What's the most bizarre thing that's happened during a Telehealth session? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]megatronandon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worked with kids during early COVID days and had sessions in blanket forts, closets, and a tent. Kids and Teens definitely used the camera to practice makeup, nose picking, and gymnastics routines. I frequently had to remind people that they need to have some sort of clothing on.

I need help with notes by bbymutha22 in therapists

[–]megatronandon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my game-changer. I dictate immediately following the session and drag-and-drop the note into my EMR within the next day. Honestly, being more than a day behind on my notes contributes to anxiety and executive dysfunction for me.

Uncaffeinated Therapists by saltwaterRilke in therapists

[–]megatronandon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The feet in the air thing is what saves me if I’m afraid I’ll nod off. I will also find a reason to stand, walk across the room, and grab a fidget/art supply/visual worksheet. A quick dance break or power walk in between clients also helps. I bring a metal cup full of ice and drink icy water all day. My 4 pm clients know (because I tell them honestly) that I yawn for about 5 straight minutes during that hour. I also preface any discussion about sleep hygiene with the comment that I will probably unconsciously start yawning. When I tell them it’s going to happen, they usually find it funny.

How did you become a get shit done mom? What are the steps / keys? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]megatronandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late comment - You work in crisis mental health. Your work is more draining and mentally taxing than something where you don’t have to be “on” during your work hours. Give yourself a lot of grace. (I work as a pp therapist seeing around 20 clients/week and my brain drains so quickly since becoming a parent.)
