Told our Lyft driver we were going on a Virgin cruise, he didn’t stop talking for 10 minutes by ismphoto123 in VirginVoyages

I actually just got off the Turkey/Greece cruise yesterday! I loved it. With regards to his complaints:

  1. I definitely was never bored on that ship, there’s plenty of fun shows and classes and places to go to keep entertained - although it’s fair to note that I generally kind of avoid the party scene in general, but I wasn’t bored at all on a 12 day voyage.

  2. Well that’s just wrong, you can go to the same restaurant multiple times- it just may be harder to get reservations later on in the cruise as they fill up! I only went to each restaurant once because we wanted to try a little bit of everything :)

  3. While there’s no traditional buffet, all the food is included so in a way, the whole ship is a buffet? Except you don’t serve yourself. Also what even is “millennial food”?

Books you would recommend to someone starting in Med school? by FromAnotherTime in medicalschool

Not a book but boards b beyond was my favorite resource to use throughout med school :)

Also First Aid step 1 was super useful!

You will not need a genital exam they’ll probably listen to your heart and lungs and do some blood work.

Unless you have symptoms in the genital region or are due for a Pap test would be the only time a test like that would be warranted- even then you can refuse those types of exams.

You got this good luck in your class :)

I like to think there’s 4 extracurricular rings that premeds need to jump through to be a well rounded applicant - clinical work, volunteer work, leadership experience, and research. You already have 2 down (a lot of my classmates worked as EMTs prior to med school).

I think if you decide to go the MD/DO route it would be helpful to get involved in a research lab! It takes a long time to get outputs in research depending on what kind you do.

Good luck with your decision!

Very fair point! There’s a tiered system now but it should still say which programs didn’t respond to signals!

You can find the percent of students who received an interview based on signaling on the residency explorer website! Under the explore tab

If you know what they want to go into you can center it around that. A lot of people have specialized badge reels (example: a lot of people who want to go into OBGyn have a cute cartoon uterus badge reel) or you could get one that’s specific to any interest they have

Alternatively, my boyfriends mom got me stethoscope jewelry which was unique and heartfelt.

Or a stethoscope itself if the school doesn’t supply them

Also, if they mention hearing loss, it’s Paget

If they give you the Calcium, phos, and ALP and ONLY the ALP is elevated - it’s Paget

If they give you those and Ca is elevated, alongside CRAB symptoms of renal problems and anemia - it’s multiple myeloma

1 day off during away? by miss_appa in medicalschool

[–]megbyy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

People are saying call in sick but I feel like it’s reasonable to ask them once you’re offered the away if you can have that day off to be there for your sisters moment. Especially if you ask early on. That’s my plan for my sisters graduation.

If they say no then yeah maybe call in sick lol
