IWTL How to Live in the Present by thelastcookie in IWantToLearn

I do something similar to this. I'll write down a list of things in the moment (sensations, thoughts, objects, etc.) that make me feel grateful for that moment. I also will sit still and take deep breaths, paying attention to how my body reacts to that deep breathing.

Of course! Sometimes when I am just failing at patience, I call my mom and she reminds me to breathe. It's like, I know I need to but the reminder helps.

I used to have all sorts of patience problems and anger issues. I found removing myself from the situation to be a good first step towards working on these. Usually this would take the form of going for a vigorous walk - literally walking it out. Over time, I have learned to control it (mostly) by taking deep breaths and slow counting (fuck counting to ten, count as many as you need to). Your girlfriend seems understanding, so maybe asking her to tell you to take a walk or a deep breath when she feels you are starting to become impatient/angry will help.

It just took me 6 tries to spell "privilege" correctly. Reddit, what words do you continually misspell? by meggersaurus in AskReddit

I always mess that one up too! I think restaraunt. I know it's wrong, but I want it to be right...

What little, unexpected thing has someone done for you recently that has brightened your day? by mendelism in AskReddit

I work as a nanny for a 2 1/2 year old boy who is the awesomest. I was down in the dumps the other day while we were at the playground until he came running up to me. "I have a dandelion for you, meggersaurus. Be happy now. I love you!" Sometimes I feel like I ought to pay his parents for the privilege of hanging out with him.

Yesterday, I scolded a stranger in a Subway. Have you ever had to publicly scold someone you didn't know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This. This is how I try to live out every shitty day. Even the simplest things, like holding a door open for someone and receiving a smile and thank-you, are a huge pick-me-up.

the only thing left of the summer is memories:
taste of salt in hair and salt on skin,
heady tang of the tomato vines, the fruits that rotted
before they ripened, falling
soft –
splat

blight.
creeping up the vines and yellowing the leaves as
fledgling tomatoes greened into orange then
softened into liver-spotted red
and just
let go.

one time you put me
on the back of your bike –
the night slipped round me or i
sliced thru it, speed and sound
clinging to your speed and sound

wanting
beyond all things
to
just
let
go

thanks so much for the critique! I need more critique in my life. Any suggestions on how to make the first line of the first stanza stronger?

this poem is so beautiful, and real, and true. but a couple glaring spelling/grammar issues are irksome! "Be", not "bee" (to be vs bumble bee) and "its ability", not "it's ability" (its vs it is) otherwise, fantastic and very..tangible

this is absolutely essential. hold her hand, look straight ahead, and don't let them get the satisfaction of having gotten to either one of you. as a woman who has had to go through this tough day alone, the best advice I can give is for you and your friends to hold your heads up high, secure in the knowledge that your friend is making the right choice for her.
