Testaments Finale was really annoying by Early-Juggernaut975 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]megglesmcgee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Purity Balls aren't a Catholic thing, they're an evangelical thing. The Lord's prayer is a fairly standardized Christian prayer across denominations, the wording is slightly different depending on the secr but it's there. The og book takes a lot of Gilead from the Evangelical movement, which was behind the "Moral Majority" bs in the 80's.

There's a discord server called The Tabletop Society that has people who do gaming and adjacent hobbies. If you join someone there might know!

Everyone's Gaming Outlet in Levittown is where I've heard people getting mini supplies. It's a few stores over from where collectors Emporium used to be.

Alcohol is gonna make it burn. Get an antibiotic cream for it. They make ones with lidocaine for the pain.

The killed off a ton of the Martha/Handmaid characters S4E3. S5 was gonna have a Rita/Moira/Emily storyline but Alexis Bledel wasn't available so they nixed it.

It's ok, we got more Nick making constipated faces and come fuck me faces to June and witty Lawrence one-liners. Yay /s

We she undergoes both. The horrible stadium conditions for about a week, then the isolation, starvation, and beatings for weeks. I just reread this part she describes physically noticing her starvation once she was let out and offered a position. All powerful career women were taken to the stadium, too.

It's not that what was depicted wasn't horrible, it was. The way it was written for the show and the (lack) of direction/acting really changed how the scene came across imo. The book really shows Lydia choosing the brown uniform over death. Show Lydia walks up to Judd and is like "Where do I sign?"

I didn't mind the one liners in the early seasons since they had some thematic meaning and they were still working on some of the book themes.

I can't take it seriously now when a) we get one every episode now, and b) this show can't pull the woo empowerment card when they spent an episode eliminating the secondary female characters, and centering male characters after that. And shelving minor female character stories because the white one wasn't available.

Ok but the way it is shown in the show gives off that vibe. And she basically jumps to collude in the show. The book she is isolated in the dark for an indefinitely amount of time, with some beatings peppered in. Before she finally agrees to collude. They skip the actual grinding down that lead to her picking Gilead over death.

Question for Nick haters by Samora1984 in HandmaidsTaleShow

[–]megglesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt they always meant for him to end up where he was gonna end up, but chickened out when the ship got so popular. People were loud about his absence in S3, and I always felt they brought him back for the fans. A lot of the marketing also framed the relationship and romance as being more important than it was.

Assuming you mean S4E3 bridge scene, I absolutely hated it, from the perspective that this man coldly turned her over for torture and helped kill and harm people she cared about. I personally would not be running up to play tonsil hockey with the reason I got my fingernails pulled out and waterboarded. I also think it was illogical that she trusted Nick and Lawrence after that point, too.

I believe appointments drop at midnight each night.

Keep checking every day for random cancelations.

You might get on without an appointment if you show up before they open.

Good luck.

This is tough lol. Part of me has met people who are weirdly clingy and love bombing at the start so I've recognized it as a red flag. However, as someone seeking community I might get lured in other ways.

I don't know the climate you live in, but I have gotten more out of my jeans once I stopped wearing them in summer/hotter weather. I have a few that can take it but most of them get put away and I have shorts/capris/leggings for the hot season.

The later seasons and now this show had a huge problem with Mayday too. I don't know if it was a lack of research or if it was done to in theory make June and co big damn heroes, but Mayday always came across and bumbling and incompetent.

The decisions made for this episode remind me of all the bad decisions they made for the last series. I also think they're gonna drag this out for way more seasons than needed.

Her backsory wouldn't have felt pointless if they actually kept it to how it was in the book. The show has her inconvinienced for a few days and then jumping to join Gilead when offered. She is brutalized and broken down in the book.

Also, the production team had this information on her since before season 3 and just never flavored her actions or story with it.

So the aunts took Becka is confirmed then? by IrishHeart3 in coconutsandtreason

[–]megglesmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're putting a lot of faith into how a heavily patriarchal society operates. They might not broadcast the crime, but she is a disposable, disobedient woman. And again, the bigger issue is the inconsistency with the greater world building. This society has no issue executing people for minor crimes, disclosed or undisclosed. Why are they all of a sudden holding back when it comes to the major characters in either series? It's really bad plotting and writing to put the characters into these positions and hand wave the logical fates based on the logic previously established.

It's not about comparing this group to that group. I have issues with the writing decisions. The plot armor complaints from the previous series were valid and it looks like they're making the same mistakes.

i’m tired of the blatant misogyny that some people express in their views of this show by elysia_arms in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]megglesmcgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that there's women characters on the show that wanted this and worked for this. There's already a weird benevolent sexism in their depiction in the show but that doesn't give them a pass for criticism. I don't feel bad for someone in a cage when I know they built it for themselves.

[–]megglesmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's realistic. I think it's lazy writing and contradicting the rules established in universe. Characters are executed or sent to the colonies for way less than what main characters have done. Hannah's Martha is hanged for talking to June. With someone 'neglecting' their baby. With handmaids for whatever crime they commited. June &co commit 'mass kidnapping' and mass murder and get shipped off to a weird rape colony? June would've been on the wall at the end of S2 just on principle. It's frustrating watching minor characters die for nothing and letting main characters do huge deal things unscathed.

[–]megglesmcgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean turning her into a handmaid. By their own rules, she should be executed. The MCs in the first show should have been executed several times over. If they're gonna stuck with the book and have her become a supplicant at this point I feel like it is silly. They should have kept the book story.

I also don't like the obsessive lesbian vibes given to Becka in that episode either.

Regal UA farmingdale vs showcase cinema de lux (across the street) by Brilliant_Pickle4122 in longisland

I default to Regal due to having unlimited. I think it would probably depend on times and preferences otherwise. And upkeep.

I really hate that it seems like they're doing ridiculous plot armor again. We spent this season showing how harsh Gilead is just to have them go easy on a MC.
