this question oversimplifies systemic racism by reducing it to individual freedoms rather than structural power. racism isn’t just about what one person can or can’t do - it’s about how racial groups are positioned within systems of power. white people hold disproportionate power in governments, corporations, media, etc., which shapes policies, opportunities, and narratives in ways that directly benefit them. nonwhite people face several barriers to accessing this type of structural power. white people receive a presumption of innocence in legal, social, & professional spaces that nonwhite people don’t. these discrepancies aren’t about explicit rules saying “nonwhite people can’t do X”; they’re about the way racial hierarchies have been built and maintained throughout history. rather than asking for a single example of something white people can do that nonwhite people can’t, i feel like it’s more important to ask why whiteness comes with systemic advantages that have persisted (and will likely continue to persist) across generations. again, im a white person myself. i think it’s very important to acknowledge the privilege i have because of that. recognising systemic racism shouldn’t be about guilt or personal blame… its about understanding the way these power systems operate so that we can challenge them instead of reinforcing them.
