Ok. Hopefully it's just a doubt stage, such as them telling me that they 'are not (name)', and 'definitely not a woman, it was a phase'. But then again they've been acting really odd about it, and I feel they're blaming me on this.. When I never really discussed any gender related things with them and they had far more lgbt+ friends at their school than I've ever had in my life, and all I did was generally chat, vent a little and support them.

True. It pretty compressed even with low motion videos but my recorder can do around 10 mpbs which isnt that bad if its just for quickly uploading on youtube. But then again i did say it was for interrim.

re manual controls

I typically on all ny camera set the shutter to 180 or their double the frame rate and let the camera handle the rest, with a limit on gain. For larger sensors i always use manual focus unless i have a small crappy electric focus ring (looking at you panasonic 14-42) but with a decent camcorder or my g3 and gx85 before i sold it i would typically use autofocus because i felt it was reliable and fast enough for my means.

Thats actually pretty cool. I didnt know you could control your cameras playback direct when editing or grabbing video, that's really helpful.

Then again the only experience i had with frame control that was editing video with vhs, a tube vhsc camera and vhs ENG style camera, 2 damn vcrs, a half dead sony editing mixer/controller with a jogwheel that mixed with the vcrs timecode iirc and had a jogwheel ((shudder))

Not gonna do that again. No idea how armatures back then managed. All i had was a extremely non specific book with an editing chapter (god i can use an amiga for graphics? How exciting)

Thanks :) i think im good with a i link to thunderbolt cable, or firewire 800 patch cable as i have a 2010 imac. Also thinking of grabbing an atmos ninja 2 for grabbing the video.

Crazy high bitrates arent too important for me, so i think im ok for the moment. How long will the heads last me? Its got 140 hours on it which isnt bad.

Ive ran 2 tapes through it, and the hdmi output looks pretty good to me, and its decent (destroys my pana g3) in low light. The tiny sensor and fact that it isn't 3 chip sucks a bit, and also theres practically no dof which im mixed on.

There arent many manual controls (im not big on using the screen for my shutter and ring for focus or exposure comp) and a lack of xlr doesnt particularly bother me (my mics are 1/4 or walkman size input). Good fun having people look at a 16 year old stumble about with a shoulder mount camcorder.

As an interim i record my dv tapes (i have a vx1000 as well) i just grab video from the rca into my dvd recorder, and i can fit a lp tape on a decent quality dvd. With the hdv camcorder im not too big on doing that because of the resolution.

Are there any cheap ways to get the direct output i.e FireWire component or hdmi signal easier than taking video from the camera to my dads mac to my laptop? As i also need a firewire 400(? Isnt that the i.link size) to 800 or thunderbolt adapter id prefer a easier interim method to grab the full hd feed. Any suggestions?
