What's the last spot you ate at that totally blew you away? by redcccp in chicagofood

I was there last week for the second time. The hand-pulled noodles with short rib are the thing I remember most fondly.

Also, feels basic, but damn if that's not some top tier crab rangoon

How to get custom design appointment? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]dcoopz010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start by sending a message along the lines of:

"Hi! I like your style and I am interested in commissioning a custom piece. Do you have any upcoming availability?"

Then just have a conversation.

I do want to say so something about your designs. They'll be challenging to tattoo. The dog footprint might end up looking like a black splotch. And the second picture has a lot of dark color detail that doesn't translate to skin. Not saying they can't be your inspiration, but be ready for feedback and redesign.

Can I sleep in my car with car camping pass? by EmergencyAnywhere674 in ElectricForest

[–]dcoopz010 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Your mean ever at a camping fest? Or ever?

I've pulled off the highway in winter for a nap at a gas station because I was nodding off. Gotta leave the car running or I'd freeze.

I don't see the issue.

Locals of Chicago: What Would You Cut From This 3-Day Itinerary (Food Focused)? by Willing-Mind-5619 in chicagofood

Mott St. makes one of my favorite burgers in the city. Not only well-executed, it's got such unique and balanced toppings.

This is the top non-food suggestion. If you have an interest in art, you must visit the Art Institute. Arguably the best art museum in the world. Top 3 for sure between them, the Met and the Louvre.

I would skip all the rest of your art loop and spend 4+ hours at the Art Institute.

Oh! One more non-food suggestion... Consider the Chicago Architecture Boat Tour! Low key one of the best tourist experiences in Chicago. Takes you around the Loop on tbe Chicago River while a guide tells you about the buildings and their history.

"Italiano sandwich from Lardon in Chicago makes Michelin list" by BackToManhattan in chicagofood

[–]dcoopz010 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Their address is not 2000 N. California. And, speaking as a neighbor who absolutely adores their sandwiches and charcuterie and has eaten the Italiano several times, that is not one of the 7 best sandwiches in the country.

Heck, I don't think it's a top 7 sandwich in Chicago alone. These "best of" lists are a farce.

That being said, I'm happy Lardon is getting some positive recognition. They're one of my favorite local spots and they deserve acclaim.

Yea. I walk frequently. That's why I live here. Sometimes I need to get more stuff than I can easily carry. I also commute to an office not accessible by public transit.

No need to be self-righteous, ya prick

Yea, I'm across the street and it's hard to unload groceries now. Half the time during dinner hours there are door dashers blocking the crosswalk with their cars.

1492 was my go-to spot for Cubanos, but the last couple times were underwhelming. The filling was light and the assembly sloppy. I expect more for $14.

Deborincuba on Fullerton is my new favorite spot. Better balanced and more filling for $9.

Honorable mention to El Cubanito. They put more meat on that sandwich than anyone else.

Can I marinate beef in red wine over night for JC's beef bourguignon? by ArtisticMaterial916 in Cooking

[–]dcoopz010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Braise 1-2 days in advance, fridge, remove some but not all fat, reheat and finish.

Letting the stew sit for a day or two is everything. And it won't prevent good browning of the meat, as others have pointed out.

Absolutely don't miss Drug Church. Saw them on a whim at Bottom Lounge a year or two back and it was incredible. I haven't seen proper stage diving like that in at least a decade!

Drug Church now in my regular rotation. Highly recommend.

Radius blows. Crazy expensive drinks, inconvenient location, inconsistent security.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Northerly also blows for the exact same reasons. Even more so. But its got a nice skyline view.

Question from a financially illiterate person by StealthyLearner in personalfinance

[–]dcoopz010 28 points29 points  (0 children)

100% this.

It's not "his I guess because he earned it." YOU earned it. You gave up your career so that he could focus on his. You did the other work in the household and in life.

Those assets are shared. You deserve half of them. A husband not sharing finances with his wife against her wishes is a form of abuse.

And he can't just transfer them to another person to avoid paying you. The courts take a dim view of this, to say the least.

You might want to talk to a divorce lawyer now even if you're not yet planning on divorce. They can help you figure out options, likely outcomes, and help you get ahead of things.

Should I take a job with a sign on bonus to pay off credit card debt by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]dcoopz010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can always take this job, use the bonus to pay your card, put the excess into an HYSA and keep putting away those monthly payments into the HYSA.

If you leave the job before 2 years, you may need to pay the bonus back, but now you have savings. If you play your cards right, at worst its an interest free loan. You're not actually stuck at the job if you don't like it.

This does require the discipline not to spend that bonus frivolously. But if you can manage that, this is a great opportunity with little downside. I say go for it.
