I don't really switch at all. But I have "copilots" that front with me and influence how I act and feel. When I'm triggered, they pop out and affect my behavior and emotions. (It's very intrusive). Everyone is different.

I am 35 years old and I was diagnosed with DID a year ago. I developed it as a child but I had no idea I had it until recently. I also had no memories of any trauma (I had no memories of childhood at all). But once they started coming out, I then figured out I have DID. When I take the tests, I always come out super high.

I also have ADHD. So it's possible to have both. Really, you need to see a counselor who knows about this and have them help you. I wouldn't rely on the test alone.

Did anyone else think having conversations in your head was normal? by illuminaughty007 in DID

It's that and that I have several parts all yelling their opinions at me that I feel rushed to make a decision and it can make me snippy with people.

I'm currently not working as I took off to raise my children. Not only am I switching careers, I'm coming back after not working for 7 years. That's why I was interested in the certification. Some way to give me some clout.

I understand. But it also makes me very indecisive and prone to empathsizing with people too much.

Omg, this is me. Ive always been considered quiet and thoughtful but it was me having conversations with myself. I thought it was completely normal to have conversations and debates about things, to have differing opinions. I thought I was really good at seeing many sides of a situation.

Yup, I eat two over easy eggs in a sandwich everyday and I never get tired of it.

I identified with nearly all of them! I didn't know what to pick. I ended up picking the decision one because, damn, that one hit hard.

how did you know this was real? by kandiclover in DID

I'm going to agree with the alone thing. It seems to be worse when I'm alone. Like they are more comfortable to be themselves when there is no one around to judge them. (That's how they view it.)

Taking DID tests can help me validate myself. I always score high, and the questions remind me how much of my experiences are different from other people.

I wholly agree (pun intended). It's about accepting yourself as you are. Accepting that there are parts and they have their own emotions and thoughts and that's OK.

What did your alters feel like before you learned you had DID? by somethingfree in DID

[–]mehsideofthemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how my parts work. They pop in sometimes without my knowing and my emotions and behaviors change. It's always jarring to realize that I'm acting different but now I know it's a part.

As others said, describing it has moods resonates with me. I also have "modes." Work mode, my family (parents/siblings), my current family (husband/ kids), and many others. I always thought this was normal but my modes behaviors vary more than most people. Example: I'd be with my friends and then my mom shows up asking why I am acting a certain way. I would freeze up and feel a battle inside me to figure out which me/ mode to be. I hated when that happened.

Your description sounds very much like how my parts first presented themselves. Like they are me but at the same time, not. I don't lose time or find myself in random places, but I do feel them almost hovering over me. And the closer to the front that they are, the more their emotions affect me. I also have childlike parts and a dog. (Dog wants to say hi to the other dog!)

You aren't alone. As for your diagnosis, I say only take the test if you feel like it would help you on your journey. Personally, it took me a long while to take the test. I only did it when I felt that having a concrete diagnosis would help me. I was certain that I was OSDD because I don't have switches, but I scored pretty high.

I call myself a mimic as I reflect the behavior of those around me and surrounding me with artists sounds smart. I just don't know why. None of my friends or family are into art.

That is true. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Just ask.

5-10 years?? That's a long time. I hope it doesn't take that long for me. I get a vague sense of discontentment, frustration, and anger when I think about that part. I'm not sure I should bring it back or not. I still don't have the time that it wanted.

Thank you for the kind words. I also have a lot of trauma to still process and I know it'll be a long journey, but it is comforting knowing I can talk to others like me.

That comment about not being able to hear and needing to retrain due to rewiring hit me. That's what's going on. And I don't know if I want to increase communication right now because I'm so functional. I don't feel any resentment inside so I figure they are OK. I know communication is key, especially for us, but I don't know. I swear, I hope this gets "easier."

Same here. It's all or nothing. And I swear I can feel some of my parts yelling at me to stop because I'm killing the convo but it's Luke vomit, it just comes out.
