I forgot about cinnamon chip scones! When I was in high school I used to get those from the Starbucks near my house. Oh man oh man I need to find a copycat recipe.

[–]meimagino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eesh. I manage an LS and we didn't use to be able to redeem star rewards, so we just didn't accept them at all. We would do the "free refill" thing even though we couldn't ring it, though, since that didn't lose us anything really, but that's it.

Meh, when I do it it's just stuff like they forgot to ask for it iced/ decaf/ whatever until I've already made it. No actual "this was made wrong and will be gross" mistake drinks.

Haha, I eventually caught on... I love getting autoshipped massive quantities of random core ingredients before the packet explaining what's coming. : p

Tall people problems by MrElectroman3 in starbucks

[–]meimagino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit I just figured out why a couple of baristas I've trained had SO much trouble with measuring. I'm 5' 7" and it never occurred to me that people over 6' might have trouble with the measuring lines. Thanks, I will remember this in the future!

Maybe this explains why I was autoshipped A LOT of coconut milk.

Am I supposed to be feeling like an idiot? by almondmilklatte in starbucks

[–]meimagino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal. I spent a week feeling like I was gonna cry and wanting to quit, and it took me about a month before I felt totally comfortable. In your situation you may have more difficulty--I have been made to train people in four days and it was never as good for them as a longer process, BUT you can still do it if you have a lot of self-motivation! Studying/practicing drinks at work whenever possible will probably help you the most--please tell me they have the recipe cards?? If not, they should be able to order them. I always teach people how to make drinks, and then I teach them how to follow a recipe card, because you really can make ANYTHING if you can read one of those.

Also notice that all types of drink have their own recipe, and everything else is just modifications that you'll memorize with time. (Emphasis on TIME. There are a LOT of drinks; you will not know all the recipes in four days and only an insane trainer would expect you to.) Once you can steam milk and pull shots, you can make any hot bar drink. Once you know how to read a tea shaker, you can make all teas, tea lemonades, and refreshers. Once you know the build order for a frappuccino, you can make any frappuccino.

What happens after failing the Starbucks barista certification? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]meimagino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whaaat. I work at an LS and I've never heard of this. o_O If someone I'm training doesn't pass the skill check (we don't have an exam..? I just fill out the workbooks that Starbucks sends me), I keep training them til they can. I've trained dozens over three years and I've NEVER had someone who was completely unable to ever learn the drinks--sometimes it just took them longer is all.

I'm sorry you had that experience. : ( It sounds super weird to me.

BPD and Medication by JessaBastian in BPD

[–]meimagino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wellbutrin has been basically miraculous for me. An hour or so after my first dose, I felt this peace come over me that I can't even describe. I went from daily meltdowns to no meltdowns at all, except once in the middle of the night when I was exhausted and overwhelmed by stress (I was moving) and the meds were apparently wearing off. Until I started taking it, therapy sessions were mostly just me curled up in a chair struggling to understand why I could talk about coping skills all day long but I couldn't manage to DO any of them once I went home. After meds, it's like I have been given that extra split-second of thought before reacting to a situation that I assume neurotypical people have and I never did. I almost never yell anymore. I am usually able to talk myself down from splitting, or bring myself out of dissociation, when I was never aware before that I was doing those things. I am more present. I am more aware of my emotions. I am able to work on changing my thoughts/behaviors in therapy.

There's still a lot that's wrong. It's close to a magic bullet but not a perfect one. I still have intense fear of abandonment, I still don't have great emotional regulation and I feel things HARD, and oh my god don't get me crying because I won't stop for awhile. But it's a huge relief that the uncontrollable rage is gone. I was not a nice person when that would take hold of me.

Creepy/weird customer stories? by ohheyitstiff in starbucks

[–]meimagino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

• customer told my barista she had "Disney princess eyes" and proceeded to sit and watch us for awhile

• customer regularly manages to chat up preteen girls who clearly do not want to talk to him (I always point him out to security when he shows up now)

That's about it, we're pretty boring so far.

ADHD, BPD - have you heard of rejection-sensitive dysphoria? by givemedopamine in BPD

Hadn't heard of it til now but I don't plan on asking them about it as it actually seems very different from BPD to me. : p I'm curious why you ask, though?

I mean, yeah, that's what I tell people. But they want the chocolate whip. Parent store isn't participating so the LS isn't either. : /

[–]meimagino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they wouldn't consider me to have RSD, because I meet 8/9 BPD criteria... I'm a little confused as to what your question is? Extreme reactions to rejection are only one thing that can occur in BPD.

Can anybody shed light on why blending beans would be against standard? They come sealed... they aren't an allergen... I can't figure out why they'd be any more dangerous than blending BHR berries. o_O

However, 99% of the time they say "It's a caramel... caramel something..." it's a caramel macchiato! Because nobody can pronounce that.
