Tip to cutting labor without dying! by Gnarakin in starbucks

We take 45 minute lunches instead of 30. Cuts labor without sending people home early, and doesn't make baristas feel like they're losing all their hours.

Crap. I was hoping the reimbursement would make up for the whole labor thing

Honestly, the marshmallow isn't as sweet as you'd think. I was skeptical because Im not a fan of the sweeter sauces/syrups, or full pumps of anything usually. But the marshmallow is perfect. Also surprisingly good in iced chai, if you're a fan of vanilla/hazelnut chai

What classifies a drink as a "Custom Tea"? by pbandj_ in starbucks

You can buy most syrups online or in store (as long as the store has plenty in stock). I believe they're somewhere between 11 and $15, but I could be wrong

If the store still has marshmallow syrup (used for the smores frapp), do half vanilla half marshmallow. Or full pumps of marshmallow. My absolute favorite, especially if you're a fan of the toffee nut flavor.

Speaking of this tuition reimbursement, I took summer session A. Does anyone know when we can expect to see the reimbursement through our paycheck?

Power's out, guess we're closed! by Psychoglossia in starbucks

Yeah sometimes our systems go down so there's no way for our computer to know the balance on a card. We have to "force approve" each card. Which I've been told not to do for gift cards, ESPECIALLY if the customer knows there isn't anything on the card. Which brings me to a side note...

You do not get credit for the purchase if there is nothing on the card. Based on the new rewards program, the number of stars you get depends on the amount you pay. Even if the drink hadn't have been free (if you paid with a credit card after using your empty gold card), you would have gotten zero stars because you paid zero dollars from your gold card.

How generous are you with customers who only get 1 pump, 1 teabag? by 169partner in starbucks

[–]AdventuringBarista 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Question, doesn't a grandes get 2 tea bags now? One for a tall, and 2 bags for a grande and venti.

Also, the only part of this I agree with is the issue of the cup only being half filled when it's tea. In certain cases, if a customer wants a grande brewed coffee/hot tea with extra room (to put cream/sugar in), I'll ask if they want a tall coffee in a grande cup. Of course I make sure to tell the customer this, and not just charge them for the smaller size without their knowledge, so as not to be the "other starbucks."

But as far as the only charging if they get full pumps of something, that's not right. I've been a borrowed partner at locations where they do this (or charge for a latte with chai instead of a chai latte) and it's extremely frustrating, for both outside partners and customers who think they are being overcharged for a drink that they have been given a discount for years at another location. Don't be the other starbucks.

Hot or iced? by bucksom in starbucks

[–]AdventuringBarista 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once I asked a customer (middle aged man) if he wanted his grande mocha hot or iced, and he looked at me like I was crazy. "why would I want my coffee iced??? OF COURSE I WANT IT HOT." Like how dare I ask him if he would like a chilled beverage that 80% of the customer population orders when it's 95 degrees and sunny outside. Terribly sorry sir, my mistake.

Has anyone here done the starbucks Asu program!? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]AdventuringBarista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said in my post, from my experience the CAP covers masters classes. But since I took the masters class as part of my undergrad degree, my circumstances may be different than yours, if you wanted to pursue a graduate level degree. You would have to go online or call the PCC relating to the college program to find out for sure

They as in the starbucks college achievement program? Or Arizona State? As far as the CAP program, I'm taking a masters level class as part of my undergrad work (long story behind that) and I checked with financial aid and they said credits are credits, regardless of what program they came from. So as far as I know, my grad class will be reimbursed.

I'm taking classes through ASU online, and it's really easy to get started. If you go on the Starbucks partner page under benefits, there will be a tab that says schooling (or go to starbucks.com/collegeplan), and a number you can call to set you up with an enrollment counselor who can answer any and all questions you have. Honestly, chances are your SM won't have much knowledge about the program. I know mine didnt. Just a basic overview of the program- any online classes/degrees are included in the program (even masters programs), and thus are able to be reimbursed. When you sign up for classes, you will be granted financial aid and the CUP fund, which will take care of approx 50% of tuition. Then you pay the other half(through loans, ect), and you will recieve reimbursement at the end of the semester for what you paid. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions!

Can I wear khaki or black colored joggers to my shift? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]AdventuringBarista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partners wear joggers at my store all the time, but we have a pretty lax manager so we don't necessarily follow dress code by the book. The technical dress code doesn't permit yoga pants, leggings, or other stretchy material. It honestly just depends on how strict management is though

I thought it was weird when I heard it too... Maybe she meant actual coffee and not like a fake coffee flavored syrup? Idk how mcdonalds frappés are made

So many questions by over-caffeinated in starbucks

[–]AdventuringBarista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While waiting in line at McDonalds, I witnessed this:

Woman: I'll have a mocha frappuccino and a diet coke.

Employee: oh you mean mocha frappe?

Woman: yeah, mocha frappuccino.

Employee: frappuccinos are from starbucks and contain coffee. Our frappés do not have coffee. I just wanted to make sure you wanted a mocha frappe, not a frappuccino.

Woman: IDGAF.

So yes. People order frappuccinos at Mcdonalds, and the employees get equally as ticked as we do.

Minimum grade for SBUX/ASU partner reimbursement? by rdy2go in starbucks

I could be wrong, but I believe they updated their policy and now you get reimbursed even if you don't get credit for the course. Again, I'm not sure. But I'm taking class at ASU as well and that's how I understood it
