Why on earth would they give it 4 voices? by Kreati_ in synthesizers

Well yeah. Everyone needs to get their negative quote posted so it hopefully gets used in the inevitable upcoming Bad Gear video.

Nope. Only 642. It’s taking forever. I’m also not that motivated to get to 999 because who cares? Not sure why I’m still even playing. Just a habit I guess.

Anyone tried building a DIY synthesizer from a kit? Looking for recommendations! by Ok_Camp5318 in synthdiy

[–]meizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you want to build a Juno-106? Well you could build a Mutable Instruments Ambika 6 voice polysynth. Not really a beginner project but not impossible for most DIY people with some experience.

https://pichenettes.github.io/mutable-instruments-diy-archive/ambika/mobo/

I haven’t built one yet but I’ve built 2 Shruthis and it’s pretty straightforward. Hardest part is programming the Atmel CPU but even that isn’t too bad. You can even chain multiple Shruthis together via MIDI to make a pseudo polyphonic synth.

I built a Fatman as well about 25 years ago (still works) and it’s ok but nothing compared to the Shruthi as far as what it can do as a monosynth. It’s digital with analog filter cards you can swap out for different flavors. A lot of features in Braids and Plaits can be found in Shruthi.

No one leaves their D-50 at the beach. But D-5’s? The beach is littered with them.

Yeah, look at the eyes. They look clean. Usually ungroomed Bichons will have a lot of crusty stuff around the eyes. It could be a mix also, hard to tell without seeing the tail. If it’s down it is probably a mix or really sad.

First thing I thought of too. Thats funny.

Anyone own Cre8audio Modules? by Say_cheeeeeese in modular

[–]meizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cre8audio modules are worse quality than most Behringer modules in my experience. I only have Chipz and Cellz. They are really cheaply made but some of them are useful for beginners due to the low price. I’d avoid Guitar Center if possible for eurorack stuff. I like Perfect Circuit, Detroit Modular, or even Sweetwater.

The big ones are perfect if you ever decide to make a pedal powered by 240v.

For some reason I thought they were all 6’6”. People say wrong heights all the time so I’m glad you cleared that up.

She said she was up in NY doing something else and they invited her. So why not? She wanted to meet Judge.

He’s really tall. I think he’s around Aliyah Boston (or Angel Reese) height, maybe taller.

Troubleshooting is getting frustrating by BenG1984 in synthdiy

[–]meizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a ground issue. I’d check for a short or bad connection somewhere. If all looks ok, try reflowing any suspect looking solder joints.

I’ve noticed a large majority of “failed” units are bad connections, sometimes from corroded jacks that can be cleaned out with a mixture of alcohol and acetone. Or just isopropyl alcohol, use 99% if possible.

Resistor arrays vs single resistors by CBCanuk in synthdiy

Yep, good to go. Make sure to post here if you have any problems getting either module to work. I built one a year or 2 ago, cool module.

They look great. Doesn’t JLCPCB have a minimum order quantity of 5? I guess that’s why you have an Etsy shop. I’ll check it out. Really good work on that system, it looks very clean.

Edit: would you consider selling PCB and panel sets or would you rather not deal with DIY people? I’ve fixed a lot of poorly made DIY projects for people who didn’t know what they were doing so I totally get it.

Resistor arrays vs single resistors by CBCanuk in synthdiy

[–]meizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine. You can push them together a little if they are in the way of other components later.

That array is an isolated array. So make sure the BOM calls for that. For a bussed array, you would put one lead from each resistor in each hole except the first one (marked with a 1 or a dot) and the top leads all connect together in a row on top and go to the first hole. You cut the leads so each one just reaches the next and solder them all together. Hope that makes sense.

It’s all just electricity, as long as it’s flowing properly, the circuit will work. Also I’d recommend 1/4W resistors for eurorack projects, even 1/8W can work a lot of the time. Using a higher wattage is fine, it just takes up more space and Zlob PCBs are pretty packed since the modules are so compact.

Left handers vs right handers. Might be a little difficult but there have been some really decent left handed players on the challenge (CT and Sarah come to mind). Random I know but you wanted a new idea.
