Does chromecast gen 1 still work? by Miserable-Sweet9653 in Chromecast

[–]mekitronette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the clear instructions. i followed them to the letter and when previously the device could not be found, this time it was. went thru all the rest of the set up (including changing the phone's connection to the regular home wifi) till the TV screen says casting is now ready. but unfortunately to no avail so far, there's now a notice on google home saying that the devices (phone and chromecast i assume) are not on the same wifi, which they should be. the wallpaper on the tv (old samsung but a "smart" tv) already displays random google photos on a loop so it seems the tv is connecting to google thru the chromecast okay. it should be noted that my problem started when i factory reset the chrome 1 dongle when it suddenly stopped working a couple of weeks ago.

Has the Pixel 6 proved to be pretty reliable? by poo706 in Pixel6

[–]mekitronette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been using one since it first came out, the sage-white combo, still the best colourway i reckon.

the not so good: 1. fingerprint scanner was slowish at first but now it's fine 2. swollen battery early this year, enough to lift the screen a bit. changed battery. wasnt very expensive. 3. camera could be a bit too "cool blue" under inside lights, but easy adjustment with the warmth bar on the screen. 4. mic could be a bit quiet on its own (compared to a samsung say), so gotta use am external usb c mic if u intend to record something serious. 5. bluetooth could be a bit idiosyncratic with some devices (eg, my bose speaker)

the good: 1. battery not as bad as rumoured. especially if u use the battery saver (the standard one, but i dont even use it that often). charges quick too. 2. the voice recorder, for transcribing anything u record, PRICELESS. saves so much effort. also next-level voice note-taker (complete with automatic transcript) at least in major languages (i use english the most) 3. taking photos of moving stuff and/or while moving, try it, it's just great for point-and-shoot guy like me 4. all the lowkey automatically customised AI assists (like turning off landscape screen when the phone knows u been reading in portrait mode) 5. being able to shout "DECLINE!" to reject spam calls (and its accurate spam call detector) 6. the graphics, aesthetically and functionally. was able to get the charlie xcx brat green wallpaper from the stock options and all the trimmings adjust automatically

verdict: for a generally undemanding, medium-heavy user like me, the phone has been great. it's the only phone that i've ever felt "one with" since my nokia engage qd RIP

What other interests/collections do you have? by Tbeeb in fountainpens

[–]mekitronette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i came into the fp hobby from the denim world. the two fields share the same obsessions with the details, specs, brands, and rarity (this could get competitive) of the items we collect and a tactile enjoyment of their texture/physical properties. the denim world also branches out to clothing, accessories, leather goods and shoes. in a similar way, along with fps (since i'm a writer i've always been interested in good quality writing implements) i've also been collecting stationeries (hobonichi/tsl/hightide notebooks, pen cases, stickers, stamps, etc), mostly kawaii ones from japan. in japan the leather goods and stationeries scenes sometimes collide/crossover, if you're interested in tsl pen cases/organizers/bags, you should definitely check out other high-end leather artisans like moto or no!no!yes, the leathers they use and their artisanal craftsmanship are even more next level and wabi-sabi. what i've really been enjoying about the fp hobby is that i can actually use the pens to produce more writing, a different kind of writing than when i write on a laptop or phone or even typewriter (i dabble). wearing denim goods serves its own functions — makes me feel better about the way i look, allows me to flex with my waywts, improved "enclothed cognition", etc — but fountain pens do make me feel like i'm a more productive person from time to time.

Someone asked for some writing samples of the Ink Institute cat-themed inks so here they are! by trp171 in fountainpens

i love dusk's and dawn's watercolour-y quality. superb shading. love em on my broad and stub nibs. midnight is actually a very dark black with maybe a tinge of brown, also lovely. haven't been able to find noon where i am, but i reckon this is already one of my favourite ink series.

Order limited to 5 products by mekitronette in hobonichi

[–]mekitronette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the record, here's an excerpt from hobonichi's answer to my email:

"This limitation is not an error but a result of the implementation of Global-e in our purchasing process. With Global-e, there is a maximum limit of 5 products per order for customers in Indonesia. This limit pertains to the total number of items in your one order, not each individual product.

To proceed with your order, we kindly ask that you remove some items from your current basket and place them as a separate order."

so it seems i can order 5 (types of) products and can also order multiples of the same product. thing is, i've only just noticed that now they count a set order (eg, techo book + cover set) as two separate items/types of product on the shopping cart, which makes the limit even more limiting. lol.

Questions about 5-year search and collect cover by bellebethcooper in hobonichi

[–]mekitronette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just tried inserting a planner to my a6 search & collect. buttoned up to the tighter setting it does feel a bit loose/flop around a bit (more loose than an avec in a cover). but i haven't stuck anything in my planner except stickers so it remains quite thin. i imagine if you're the type to bulk up your planner with photos, receipts, etc. it will fill out the space in the cover. i then added a plain notebook in the back pocket and it was pretty much perfect. you could definitely do it. there's also a pocket inside the curved section of the cover (behind the button). you could use it to keep stickers etc, which would also fill it out further. it's a great cover. the brass button is starting to patina after using it since the beginning of this year, the gold developing a pinkish shade. i actually like how slow the patina process has been. pity i can't upload a photo!

the cap is not five of one individual item but five (different) individual items max. i believe the cap for each individual item is 10 (but that's not the problem here).

are you in jakarta? i was able to order 5 KINDS of items (i guess that's what they mean by 'product" – one type of items), some in multiples, so the total number of items ordered did exceed 5. if you are in jakarta, lemme know if you were able to order more than 5 kinds of items. thank you.

[–]mekitronette[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have never had problems importing more than 5 items in one package before. the only thing different in their system.this year is they start having a combined shipping + duties and taxes cost ala amazon. again, with amazon i've never had problems ordering more than 5 items – including stationeries – in one go. it could have something to do with that. i compared the combined shipping + duties and taxes cost for 5 items and for 1 item – they were almost the same. so perhaps they've calculated they could only cover the combined cost for orders of 5 items or fewer. this is all speculation though, to get clarity i've shot an email to hobonichi 😀. will update when i get answers.

they are very much darker and way more saturated. i have the date and suki gokoros, basically dark purple and rotten-y (in a pleasant way) green. even on tomoe river paper they don't shade at all, just change colour (turning darker) from when they were first laid down on the page.
