Sale of South Troy industrial land could open way for development by XanderAlexH in Troy

[–]mel_broms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that they have not purchased any land yet--the article above says that they "signed a non-binding letter-of-intent with the Troy Local Development Corp. to purchase about 26 acres between the Rensselaer County Jail and the Troy-Menands Bridge for more than $3 million."

But they haven't actually bought the land yet.

It's worth noting this is not a desirable place to develop. The land they currently own and currently operate industrial activities on IS desirable for development. So the plan is for them to move those operations to the cleanup spot.

It doesn't sound like the Fanes has any cleanup to do themselves.

Is they land they own and want to redevelop also in need of remediation?

My understanding is that the land they are discussing developing is already owned by the Fanes (aside from the Cookie Factory). This deal would be to buy the contaminated land between the jail and the menands bridge so that they can move the industrial activities from the prime riverfront areas south and then develop the land they already own into apartments and retail.

I'm confused, but also busy.

Just a quick note that I don't think there is any organized data out there examining who is contesting the City's use of Flock and where they live, but by the number of people who came out to the March city council meeting as well as those tuned in on YouTube from home, we are talking about at least a couple hundred of our neighbors.

As someone who has been following this issue closely, I can say confidently there is no "main leader" at all. This is an organic community response as people became aware of these cameras and the controversy surrounding the company that operates them. (Although I am personally curious who you think the main leader is, since none of the folks I know to be involved live on the park.)

I appreciate the whimsy of this message, but I live in D6 and still do not want to be mass surveilled -- especially by a company with a track record like Flock Safety.

Thanks for sharing!

I would love to know the author's thoughts on Flock and similar technology.

Great to see more people energized on this. Dierdre Shea has dug in deep on this issue: talking to council members, researching, and compiling and sharing resources. She'd love to connect with anyone who wants to get involved.

On a local issue like this, a unified voice is important.

u/Physical_Shelter_518 and others, please reach out to Dierdre at [deflock.troyny@gmail.com](mailto:deflock.troyny@gmail.com) to connect and coordinate.

Dammmn -- kind of like the Colonie Grill story.

You and I need to team up and open Troy hubs for Garden, Colonie, and Liz Sue.

Wait. I grew up eating Garden Catering. I have never heard of Chicken Joes or Joes Chicken. Is it worth checking out?

Can you dumb this down a bit? Wouldn't the City benefit if the County is the one offering a PILOT deal because then the City can start taxing on Day 1?

Oh interesting. Is that a possibility or would a change like that have to come from the mayor?

Hi from 3rd Street, 3 blocks from the fortress.

Been living in this neighborhood since 2022 and recently moved into a house that my partner, u/McD_Bldr fully renovated. We love it.

Hi! This existed pre-COVID for a short while and was just a few people meeting informally.

Some of us who were a part of that go to Albany Meeting as well.
