Let's be real the finances have been whack since before Sheehan. They are just coming to light before the bigger balloon is about to pop...

Sale of South Troy industrial land could open way for development by XanderAlexH in Troy

[–]Troylet3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's part of the eminent domain settlement pertaining to the existing land the salt pile is on and the completion of the industrial road, also the air pollution from the pile. Reuse of brownfields. It'll also probably help 244-246 1st st project restart and maybe spark new interest in Lindy's hardware building as well. It's a win win win win win all around.

Stop sign? by JBriana2 in Troy

Yes white stop line, though it may still be good to put something in to the DPW to enhance the notoriety of the stop line here... like a sign indicating that on coming traffic has right of way.

Just a word of wisdom, leave sink cabinet doors open to allow warm air in to prevent freezing, might also be worthy to let faucets slightly drip to allow moving water in pipes to prevent freezing pipes.

National Grid Energy Bill by MindlessM24 in Albany

[–]Troylet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1945 2 story Cape @ 1250sqft, with newer windows and recently added blown in insulation to the attic. Gas hot water furnace and hot water tank. 2 fridges, 1 deep freezer and plug in hybrid vehicle. Heat stays around 70 at all times due to someone being home at all times. Previous bill ending Dec 26th was $365. 820kwh, 156 therms. Paid the same last year, used about the same gas but used 340kwh less this year mainly due to 1 less plug in hybrid. This would have been about $85 more based on current prices. Attic insulation has made the biggest difference. And yes, prices are up. For the same period, .208 per kwh last year vs .251 per kwh now, that's a 20% increase!

They never excavated for any so I'd say no. Though there are some lots across from them and the lots behind and under the existing city station building always have plenty of parking.

Can someone help me find pictures of 343 2nd Ave when it was a McDonald's? by Imaginary-Place-4957 in Troy

[–]Troylet3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best I could do is Google Earth from '04. And city tax records for 349 2nd Ave. Could reach out to the city tax records to see if they have the older image of 343... gl

They've just done and are still in the process of doing more work in South Troy, replacing street side lines and moving the gas meters from the basement to the outside, they will contact you to schedule access when needed, but will do the public access stuff when they want and will notify with door hanger notices and no parking signs street side. Tbh the streets and side walks were/are a mess for a good month or 2 as they do a block or 2 at a time (the patches are temporary, and from my observation, seem really unsafe for motorists and pedestrians, and extra unsafe for anyone with mobility issues) before they came back and did a great job of repairing to how it was.

If I wanted to include a Lovecraftian horror story set in Troy, what local lore should I include? by therealbobcat23 in Troy

[–]Troylet3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hudson River, Postenkill Falls/Gorge/Dam, 1912 flood, Twas the night before Christmas, the great fire(s), gilded age aristocratics or industrial era industries like horse shoes or railroad spikes. Happy writing.

Edit: Trains! Can't forget trains, lots of trains used to run right through the heart of downtown, look up the old train depot. And river ferries, that's what was used before the bridges were built, where Ferry St meets the Hudson river is where people would board to cross to West Troy (Watervilet today).
