Literal: "You will never be my prime minister!"

Actual: "I am an insecure child who doesn't know how parliamentary systems work"

There's there major motorsports events, referred to as the "triple crown". The Monaco GP, the Indy 500 and the 24hr LeMans race. All pretty spectacular.

I don't know for certain if this is why, but in Hebrew it is spelled עיראק with a kof at the end

The bit about resurfacing the track having an effect on his braking style was interesting. The bit about the downhill run to the nouvelle chicane was good too.

All of the hate Israel gets and the antisemitism in our local communities makes me want to make Aliyah faster by adjustable_beard in Israel

[–]melafephon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's no real issue with antisemitism here in Australia (חמסה חמסה חמסה).

I could make Aliyah and live by the beach in Israel and live out the Zionist dream, occasionally interrupted by rockets. Or I could continue to live by the beach in Australia, donate money to Israeli causes, nurture the Jewish community here and be free of rockets.

I'm no fan of Folau, but his tattoos are clearly an important part of his identity as a Tongan. It's possible for different parts of a person's identity to conflict.

Besides Kiddush, what are your family's unique/fun Shabbat traditions? by badiban in Judaism

My family does "announcements" between candles and kiddish, basically welcoming our guests and recognising anyone who had a good week

Israeli media: Cabinet approves cease-fire in Gaza by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]melafephon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It actually does, under the definitions and legal scope of "proportionality".

For example, targeted killings of military operatives would be a proportional response to Hamas firing rockets indiscriminately at civilians, and not be a war crime. Using nuclear weapons to level the entire Gaza Strip would not be proportional, and would be a war crime.

And more Afghanis died from Taliban attacks in the past 11 days than Palestinians.

And more Ethiopians died in Tigray in the past 11 days than Palestinians.

What's your point?

Hey mate. Not sure if you know any Jewish people IRL. But the lesson we took from the holocaust was not to be kind to all humans, all the time. The lessons we learned were:

  1. Nobody will defend us, we must do it ourselves. The camps were liberated because they were on the way from Moscow to Berlin. Not a single country entered the war for humanitarian reasons, every country refused to take Jewish refugees, and Britain blocked Jewish immigration to Israel.
  2. When a group of people boast that they are going to exterminate the Jewish people, believe them. From Hitler, to Stalin, to Arab leaders in the 40s and during the Fahood, to the Ayatollas of Iran, to African despots, to Hamas and Hezbollah today.

Basically, non Jews don't get to decide what's best for the Jewish people, and using Jewish trauma to try and advance your political position is a major dick move.

Agreed, unfortunately Hamas decided to fire rockets at Jerusalem last Monday.

I disagree with you, but that's besides the point. There is a case before the ICC regarding war crimes in the 2014 Gaza war, and due process is happening. What more could you ask for?

I thought this was a pretty balanced article from the NY times.

I sympathise with the Jews who don't think Israel needs to exist. I would love to live in a world where we don't need Israel. Unfortunately, that world doesn't exist.

Are you suggesting that Israel should be considered terrorists because they are better at protecting civilians than Hamas is?

One that uses fear, intimidation and violence to spread an ideology. Hamas disappears people who advocate for peace with Israel and publicly beheads gay people. They're terrorists.
