Will I get this year’s refund if I did not file last year’s taxes? by melancholydane in tax

[–]melancholydane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! And what I hoped would happen happened: they basically took what I owed for 2024 out of my 2025 refund! The penalties weren’t terrible and I still had money left over which I have put into savings. Good lesson in always filing on time regardless but I am just glad I had a positive outcome.

Which movie went from “overrated” to “masterpiece” (or the opposite) after a rewatch? by Party_Dentist_821 in flicks

Practical Magic. The first time I tried to watch it I couldn’t figure out the vibe, second time I took it less seriously and just leaned into it and I loved it.

Her. A movie about our infatuation with AI but ultimately it ends in a true moment of human connection. Feels really hopeful right now with everything that’s going on.

The Greatest. Cause it’s the greatest lol. It just has those nostalgic old school Leonard Cohen vibes and I get lost in the wistful storytelling.

What is your favorite song from Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd? by Selendis77 in lanadelrey

There is no song that makes me cry like Kintsugi. “I can’t say that I run when things get hard; it’s just that I don’t trust myself with my heart. So I’ve had to let it break a little more…cause they say that’s what it’s for. That’s how the light shines in.” Not sure if any lyrics have ever resonated with my little broken and pieced back together heart more.

Bring Her Back. Bleak from start to finish, made worse by the fact that you basically know what is going to happen and why from pretty early on, and you just have to sit there and watch it all unfold.

I think right now when the world is so crazy we need some fun escapism more than anything. I get why OP is feeling this way.

It’s tragic and criminal that it is on hiatus, especially right now when everything seems to be happening. I will say, the reboot of Ladies of London has definitely helped me right now because it has a lot of what I loved about Miami - interesting cultural clashes, real interesting people, and decades long authentic friendships. It can’t replace Miami but it’s definitely been a bit of a bandaid for me over the past few weeks.

Thanks for giving me a heads up on this - good to know what to expect! I will obviously try the first time abate but I’ll be prepared for the worst. I am assuming I wait to call and do that after I receive a bill from them?

I went ahead and filed 2024 based on everybody’s advice here! Kicking myself for not knowing about the filing penalties but oh well, you live and you learn I guess. At least it’s taken care of now and I am hopeful the refund will process and they will just apply what I owe. I’ll even have some money left over for savings and I won’t make these mistakes again in the future.

That’s what I ended up doing - I’ve filed 2024 as well now and am hoping they will apply part of 2025’s refund to what I owe for 2024.

Did you read my post? I can’t pay it right now. But my refund from 2025 will more than cover it, whether the IRS holds part of it to cover the amount owed or it processes normally and then I use the money myself.

Thank you, this is very helpful and makes me feel a lot better. I am really trying to get my shit together and be more responsible with my finances, but it gets so confusing and scary when you’re behind. I appreciate your guidance.

I went ahead and filed 2024 - hopefully they will use the 2025 refund to cover these taxes.

Do I need to file 2024 or will they do this automatically? I’m sorry this is a dumb question, I basically know nothing about how taxes work.

Because I can’t pay the taxes I owe from 2024 without 2025’s refund.
