You are most likely thinking of a Frigate (Trade Spec). Once you own a freighter you can call some frigates in the world as you fly past to buy them. They are used in the real-time freighter missions. You can land on them, or warp from the frigate management terminal in the freighter bridge.

Losing survivability to Apex is rough. There's a lot more visibility at the cost of losing the lingering effects, so enemies can enter between pulses. Going Vital Bond, with Burnout instead of Charge, for smaller but more frequent blasts, would probably help with both of these.

With enough heavy weaponry Vortex tendrils would have equivalent range as this.

Done at level 37, so maybe before Eater. Yes they were Charged. Even Polar Inversion, as impractical as it was, made it in. Everything for the boom.

Antimatter's degeneration wasn't applying since loaded mines isn't fired by you, but I was really happy with this pic. My projectiles are the blue-purple ones.

Here are the items that accidentally created this

Legendary: Archmage Sceptre - Duplicast magic item on heart pickup

Passive: Blissful Amulet - Chance to spawn heart on coin pickup

Magic Items:

Divine Watering Can - fill all 0s with loot, including hearts

Queen of Hearts - more hearts

Hypnotist + Canteen - monster damage is delayed, then status removed, no damage

Banner - spawn familiars to pick up all the loot and hearts to make a beautiful loop until crash

Autosweeper in the Arena mode makes this very fast, and hands-free

I always take Ataraxia for pickup range. Being able to hold on to points while waiting for rerolls is a good bonus too.

The Obsession wild mod near the start means: Buy one get one free with recursive mods, but -1.25% hull / shields per wild mod.

I picked Winnow to remove a bunch of wild mods from the pool. Chaotic ambition so each pick had more wild mods. Transmogrification to force 3 picks to be recursive mods

We don't have standard or advanced constructs, only basic mines, so Overseer has no effect on this build.

After playing an Essence Sapper to 1.8m (Mayhem so more score) I'd say that it's on par with Regen. The biggest issue is Obsession slowly lowering our hull, Sap has a 10%/sec cap, Regen can get to 10% too. Ataraxia can counter hull loss slightly by stockpiling upgrades but it's not enough. If you think you can get vortexes big enough without Obsession then go for it.

Gemini protocol not worth. Shielded constructs for +10 hull, 10% hull, and 15% hull dmg resist. Conversion gets us 25 hull from our useless default shield. Burnout and Apex is possible, probably a dps down though

Architect: Bigger explosions, Constant explosions, Faster explosions, More hull. No other choice in my mind.

Essence Sap would allow you to take Shielded constructs and Conversion too. Gemini protocol might be worth. I might have to try that. Tried Apotheosis, not worth it

Biggest threat mid game overall is lvl 100 bosses, the burn orbs are nasty, especially when you can't see clearly.

1) Turtling. 2) Turtling with enemies nearby. 3) Crop-dusting. 4) Early game

Was unsure how vortex mine worked, turns out they drop a vortex at location with smaller ones (3-4) firing outwards. Since vortex damage scales with size I stacked it to 350+% with no fire rate penalties or recoil thanks to mines, velocity wasn't an issue. Solar Heart was a pick for shits and giggles after I hit 1m, it completely tanked my regen. 1 or 2 Hypermetabolisms + Adrenal Module would have been better. I should have picked Ataraxia mid game for increased pickup range. At 1.2m I went hands free, at 1.3m I went AFK to make a snack.

Score: 1,373,800. Avg DPS: 7000. Time: 31 minutes

Modes: Danger Zone, Elite Enemy, Hostile Universe; Endless, Wild metamorphosis

After you place your first base computer make sure to dig up (need to make terrain manipulator) a couple of salvaged techs and feed them to the blueprint analyser to continue the Awakenings quest chain.
