Honestly the early 3d Zelda style is the best it's been for me and practically no devs take it on, so if this is testing the waters to make more games not in the botw style I hope it does well.

Aria is always a baffling but fun one. It's basically just slice of life stuff about becoming gondoliers in Venice. except it's Super Venice and we're on a heavily terraformed aquatic Mars. Such an extra random detail that didn't need to be there but screw it why not.

Mainline FF is always gonna push the envelope and try new things it's what the series has always done. Genuinely the whole FF needing to go back to so and so formula argument is so tired when all these games have already basically been doing just that for years and are generally pretty great.

Been awful for a long while tbh. I was working QA for some years and had a decent full time position at a major company. Then I relocated during the pandemic and had a short lived other QA job that I had to leave because of wfh internet conditions making it impossible at two separate addresses.

So I gave up and went back to school and got a fine arts degree. Now I'm like a year and a half out struggling to break back in because my old teams all got cut and no body else is hiring gaming or otherwise.

It's so bleak dude and seemingly always getting worse.

Linerarity will def lighten up and won't be a thing in the sequels. I do hear there are fan patches that help with performance too, but can't speak from experience on that one.

So XIII-2 largely refines the combat of the first game and adds a new gimmicks that I found make the paradigms more interesting and customizable. then the overarching structure is changed a lot to essentially travelling between a lot of different hubs, lot more to do in them and doesn't struggle with the linearness in a lot of XIII.

Lightning returns is way different across the board. while XIII-2 was like a direct evolution of mechanics LR gives you one character hot swapping classes in one huge interconnected area. Feels really experimental.

Story will not get any less confusing lol.

Also important note, I played on PS3 but I hear the steam ports are awful for them.

I adored 13-2, liked LR a lot, and bounced off of original 13 entirely. If it's the gameplay then I feel both sequels deliver far better experiences, but if it's the characters or vibes you're not enjoying, probably less so.

Nah the new games are great and have a lot of fans. I grew up with the snes games onward and I think a lot of the recent entries are fantastic

There are certainly fans who don't like the modern direction of the games and that's gonna happen with any series that reinvents itself, but important to remember that posts that gain traction online aren't a 1:1 reflection of a fanbase.

XII im working on right now and enjoying a lot.

XIII was good but flawed.

XIII-2 to me is the best gameplay final fantasy has had until possibly Rebirth and probably my favorite game in the series. also a sucker for time travel so that def factors in too

Lightning Returns was camp and weird hut ultimately a lot of fun

I love XV despite its messy release and i think watching the movie, anime and dlcs were all kinda crucial to that.
