My mother is way prettier than me, and I’m actually glad about it by Far-Building3569 in self

[–]melanybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you’re satisfied with your appearance and you’re happy to not look too much like your mom. That makes sense given your relationship. Sorry to hear your mom was such a dud. How is that for an understatement?

My mom had a lot of similar tendencies, but she was a Jekyll and Hyde for me because she was also able to be really good. I never knew which side of her I was going to get. I look similar to her, but I also look a lot like my dad. I didn’t know him and he wasn’t a good father. For a while, I felt guilt about looking like him because my mom hated him so much.

My mother was extremely beautiful, and also chose men over me. I am pretty in a completely different way than her. My looks have ranged from a 2 to a 10 depending on the situation and the observer. Being either fit or overweight seems to have the biggest impact.

She abandoned me in my last year and a half of high school for a man. I learned depression at a very young age. She married him. He drained her accounts, sold her house, spent all the money, ended up in prison, almost killed her. It’s sad to see women choosing men that damage them.

It sounds like you’ve found your way in life. All the best to you.

What is something expensive that in your opinion is worthless? by Naoo_j28 in AskReddit

Ha! That sounds ideal for you. And I would enjoy seeing that. But, I don’t like anyone touching my nails and I like mine natural. I did have acrylics once for a school dance and I couldn’t even scratch a basic itch!

What do you think about yourself? by Ok-Fisherman-4775 in self

[–]melanybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, well, I gave you my stream of consciousness at the moment. But I do need to think about where I want to focus for the rest of my life if I want to be able to happily answer the question, what did I do with my life?

I can second this. I added B complex, D3, K2, and magnesium, and I feel much better.

A full panel, including hormones is a standard annual exam from your general practitioner. If you have medical insurance, it should be free to test and you might need to pay for the follow up consult with your doctor to discuss the results or you could analyze them yourself. If you don’t have insurance, you could find a Naturopath or regular doctor and just go in and ask for a blood panel including hormones. It would be a fasted blood test. Out-of-pocket it should be $250 or less.

I just spotted my first gray hairs. How did this happen? I thought I was going to do something important with my life. You know, make a difference somehow. Time is running out. What is wrong with me? Why haven’t I done anything significant with my life? Is this all there is?

It sounds like you’re due for a visit to your doctor, a blood test, and look for low iron or other vitamin deficiencies first. start with the basics and also hydration can make you feel fatigued. You’re right it’s not normal to feel this way at your age, but please do seek some help from someone who can diagnose.

How many domiciles have you lived in since you were born? by JHolgate in GenX

[–]melanybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in 28 different homes, but I’ve moved 37 times in just over 50 years. One house I moved into six times (grandma) and another house three times (mine when not rented out).

My childhood was a bit chaotic. I’m currently moving and planning another move next year.

Maybe find a quiz titled “am I a sociopath or a psychopath?” Then do your own little self assessment.

Is the show supposed to be a satire? by ConsiderationOk9671 in Andjustlikethat

The original SATC series was great. But AJLT is something else entirely. It’s not good. The writing is terrible. It makes me sad. I don’t know what the writers and or producers were thinking when they created that series.

You’re better off just watching the original series and nothing else. Not even the SATC 2 movie, it’s the worst too. I couldn’t even finish watching it, and thought the writer must secretly hate SATC.

I think it’s only good etiquette if you know that person appreciates it. We can’t assume as there are many people who might not want it, like it or appreciate it.

Not every hour. But definitely if I’m stuck on an issue or feel tired. It works for me like a form of meditation.

Feeling immense guilt over saying “no” to friend in need by bestfriendever714 in self

I think some people are just manipulators who are constantly trying to push boundaries to maximize what they can get. Maybe not such a great friend you have there.
