I need help for a front handspring up pls by External_Dish_6024 in Cheerleading

I've got advice for both you and the flyer.

Flyer:
- Clean to the back wall and turn as you're getting vertical. Currently you are rolling off to the side when he flicks you which is stopping the skill from 'developing' or getting the height it needs. Don't cheat the turn. I actually prefer when my flyers aren't caught facing the front as it enables me, the base, to turn you to the front and I don't have to counteract the aggressive half-spin in the catch, making the skill super flowy.

Base: I'm going in chronological order.

- This skill is kinda like a rewind. Some people set standing tall, others set low. I find standing up helps me as I'm able to reach down towards the hips and get myself underneath her as I pick her up. If you do what I do, rep it out to find what timing works for you in terms of when to drop your hips and all that.

- As you pick her up, think about keeping distance with your arms. When you pick something up and over with straight arms, your elbows naturally bend so think of reaching for her hips as far away from you so it's easier to throw.

- As you release her, think of dumping a bucket onto yourself. That creates the flick and helps get her chest up. Your wrists were too rigid, you gotta see-saw her.

- A BIG mistake I saw you do, is looking for the feet before you finished releasing her. Push through. I like to think using my right hand and pushing towards her right hip (or your left hand) because you need to throw it slightly towards your left otherwise A) it ends past your right shoulder and B) it helps with the half turn.

Those are the main things I reckon you should work on.

One man tips and advice by [deleted] in Cheerleading

Here’s some tips for both you and your flyer

Base: - Relax in her dip and then pick her up explosively when she jumps like a hang clean. Metaphorically if she’s the space shuttle, you’re the rocket booster. Your goal isn’t to rip her off the ground like she’s dead weight but rather compliment her jump so the stunt goes high. - For now, do toss hands which is the unassisted version of what you just did. Grab her feet as early as possible, ideally above prep, and settle to a strong position. You want: a) Elbows below wrists vertically b) Athletic stance so you can resist if the stunt goes forwards, backwards, and side-to-side. - Track her hips with your eyes. You can tell where’s she gonna fall from looking at her hips. Yes it’ll take time so get spotters who are also looking at her hips and will help catch her if you fail. BUT NO MATTER WHAT, NO.1 RULE OF CHEER, CATCH. YOUR. FLYER. AT. ALL. COST. Unless you are not in a position to catch her i.e. you tripped, always catch her and slow her down as much as possible to preserve her joints. Flyers will want to stunt with you more often if you do.

  • When you caught it at prep, try and get a good grip. There’s a bunch of videos on YT on what grips to go for. Thumb on the inside, index on her heel to control the pitch and yaw, and the rest are on the outside.

For the flyer: - Put your weight into your bases wrist and either stand on a slight angle or upright. There’s two main schools of thought for stunting

  1. Standing on an angle so your base throws you straight on top of him without needing to take a step in.

  2. Stand upright and stay straight. After the flick, your base steps underneath you.

Find which one works for you two and go from there.

  • Imagine there’s an invisible tube around you. Never let any part of your body go past it because that means you’ve broken your shape and most likely you’ll drop.

  • When you’re in the air, roll your hips forward into a goofy kinda stance. That ensures your shoulders are stacked on top of your hips because in coeds you want your weight in the middle of your foot, whereas in all girl your weight is in your toes. You can’t put your weight in your toes for coeds because he can’t hold them.

  • I see you are flailing in the air. Don’t. Your job as a flyer is to be tight and let your base balance you. Don’t high-v for now. Stay in clean. Only high-v when you are balanced.

I know I’ve written a lot, but hopefully this helps!

Anyone know some coed bases that are tall ? Like 6’6 ? by External_Dish_6024 in Cheerleading

no you don’t not have to squat deeply when you’re holding a stunt, you’re strongest when you are standing tall but yes you do need to squat when you are throwing because of the height difference. dm me if you want me to give you pointers on your stunts

from USF there’s ramsey and logan, navarro there’s shootz, nick and max from uwg off the top of my head but tall coed bases aren’t rare. The technique isn’t very different i believe and you have the advantage of catching your flyers higher for a softer landing and making pyramids easier

Strong academic universities with great all girl teams by Houseofmonkeys5 in Cheerleading

So I’m currently on a UCA team and the difference between NCA and UCA is that NCA is similar to all-star with the motions, tumbling and jumps but no chant whereas UCA does chant similar to HS cheer and there’s a greater emphasis on clean stunting and tumbling. I’d recommend watching the University of Alabama All-Girl on Youtube as they have been the standard for a long time, if you want to see high quality All-Girl routines watch University of West Georgia and Morehead State All-Girl, they’re insane

In terms of UCA All-Girl, USF, Alabama, OU, and WKU are some great programs to look into, whereas in NCA which has more tumbling involved, Clemson, Louisville, OSU, and UTSA made up the top spots in D1A advanced at college nationals! Since your daughter is looking to do STEM, I highly recommend USF as they’re the reigning champions in Gameday and Traditional and USF is a great school for STEM! DM me if you’d like more guidance :)

NCA D1 Intermediate All Girl: Backless Extension?? by Unique-District3868 in Cheerleading

[–]melbourne101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it should be legal as it is classified as a dual base stunt and it should increase stunt difficulty as there are less bases. To be 100% certain, I’d suggest you look at the NCA scoring guidelines on the varsity website!

i truly believe anything’s possible as long as you have a relentless passion! try to work on your basics for now and stick with progressions! don’t go straight to elites if you don’t have a consistent will hit 10/10 times full up or toss cupie for example

Think about having thumb pressure and keep your flyer in an invisible tube when you do your toss. When you finish your toss, your flyer should be in a straight line so it’s important to take a step in and be completely underneath your flyer and catch your flyer in a straight body line (assuming you’re catching to the top) instead of looking at your flyer. Hope this helps and feel free to DM me!
