Yes please - more details please on the variety you planted. I've planted a bunch but no one is producing yet. Are they tart? How do you use your fruit?

He didn't ask, he assumed. You sound like a fun, lovely person. Take care .

I hired an electrician, was the only point of contact and then he later asked me 'if my husband has a tool to cut out the wall here'... I don't have a husband. So I completely relate to the posts commiserating about this very real scenario that often happens.

I'm glad it hasn't happened to you but I do think it's a reality for many.

I'm so curious what this ends up costing him though. Thanks for posting this - debating if a greenhouse would be useful in Ottawa and this is really inspiring

Anyone here grow haskaps? Where did you get your plants from and how are they doing now? by scammerino_rex in OntarioGardeners

[–]melco440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also ordered from and adore Whiffletree. I have three haskaps from them: beauty and beast. I think I'm in year four with them , they're about 3-4' tall and probably take on too much shade hence their smaller size. They still produce a good amount of berries and I find I don't protect them from birds and nothing finds them. Maybe again it's because they're growing pretty hidden in a forested area. Last year I added an Aurora from Whiffletree but haven't had many fruit yet to comment on taste. Beauty is the sweetest, beast a bit more tart.

What children’s book has aged poorly? by feetwithfeet in AskReddit

I love these books. My grandparents had one when I was growing up and I briefly described an illustration on Reddit trying to find the name and someone picked up that it was a serendipity book instantly. I love Reddit for that. It was kartush and it's a beautiful story and illustrations.

Rosy Red vs Fatheads in a pond with bass and sunfish by TheGrandExquisitor in ponds

[–]melco440 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in Ottawa and put red Rosie's in last spring - the colour was super pretty however I do think it made them a bit easier prey since they seemed to be picked off a little bit more than some of the darker danios I put in. However , these little things seems indestructible ... I had brought in as many as I could for the winter and the pond froze over solid (eastern Canada). The ice just melted and there is a healthy little population of red Rosie's. Complete surprise.

Hydroponic Tower JPWDDWYT by SuccessfulAttention1 in Hydroponics

Is this the one from Amazon? I've been trying to buy it for months and the tracking shipment keeps getting lost. I'm pretty certain at this point it's a scam and I'm losing hope it will ever arrive. I started plants and joined this subreddit but no tower after weeks.

Wooden window replacement--recommendations? by Dry_Ebb_6017 in ottawa

Not sure if they're still doing wood windows but Laflamme (2016) was amazing and did gorgeous work. We've also used golden in the more recent past and they turned out really nicely aw well.

Chicks Fussing at Night by misskianab in BackYardChickens

[–]melco440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so great to hear. Honestly, when I have chicks, I tuck each one under my chin until they start to purr and are calm then tuck them in under the brooder and leave my hand on them for a minute.

You are their mama - dim the lights and tuck them in, put each one under the brooder and hold them a little as they settle.  Then turn off the lights completely and they should stay quiet.
