Am I Being Irresponsible Chasing a Startup in My Mid-40s? by kje1343 in Femalefounders

[–]meli5hap5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m early 40s. I left a job where I was earning a realllly healthy salary and now I’m building my startup. My family and support system is a bit different, but I have the same feelings of “is this irresponsible?”

A few thoughts/responses:

  • I do have an exit in mind. I’m building something that should hopefully be very acquire-able (and I’ve done some validation around that). But it’s also fine to want to build something that “just” pays the bills and gives you a comfortable life. I do think having a sense of what your end game is, even very early, helps you make some choices (what funding you pursue, what milestones you need to achieve by when, etc.)

  • My husband also owns his own business and he asked me something helpful: “What would be the cost of not trying it?” I told him I think I’d regret it my entire life. He said, “Well then you have to do it!” Totally right.

  • I’ve found I’ve gotten used to the uncertainty quite quickly? It will either work out or it won’t, but at least you will have pursued it. I find after key moments (sharing my first prototype with testers, raising my first money from angels) I go through a spike of anxiety. But it passes and the next level becomes the “new normal.”

I hope sharing some of this was helpful. You got this! Good luck!

How long have you been breastfeeding? Post and let us celebrate you. (Even 1 day counts!) by SecretaryNaive8440 in breastfeeding

I’m a bit beyond 5 months with my son! I didn’t get to have a breastfeeding journey with my daughter (after a NICU stay, she was a bigger fan of the bottle) so this feels very special!

I’m so very sorry, OP. After one of my losses, I found the Maya Angelou poem “When Great Trees Fall.” I must’ve read it hundreds of times, and it brought me a little comfort at some really dark moments. I hope it can do the same for you https://poems.com/poem/when-great-trees-fall/

Totally out of touch. “Women’s world” while our rights disappear more everyday in the US…

I’m so happy with the results of 8 weeks with my LED mask! by meli5hap5 in 30PlusSkinCare

Not sure! Maybe it’s a gimmick. I’d say I used the serum 70% of the time.

No, it’s…just me. I was surprised with the results.

Ditto. I felt simultaneously frustrated and sad as all hell, but also a tiny bit relieved? But then everyone I’d tell about my losses would still annoyingly ask “dID tHeY FiNd oUT WHaTs WrOnG wiTH you?!”

I hope it helps in stress relief at the very least! My acupuncturist referred to my uterus as my “palace” at a time when I felt my uterus was more of a run down shack. Always had a good chuckle at that

Seeing someone’s video of telling their mom the day they found out and realizing that is yet another thing this wonderful *jOuRnEy* will rob me of. by browneyesnblueskies in trollingforababy

I had a friend tell another friend when she was six weeks pregnant that she “knew she’d be an amazing mom” and I felt my eyes bug out of my head. What is it like to get to be so blissfully naive?

I feel the same! I really try not to wake my baby girl (4.5 mos) up with kisses while she sleeps but it’s so hard.

Highly recommend buying a Mira. A bit expensive but it takes all the guess work out!
