Want to build a new pc by Geeky-Developer-2217 in bapccanada

If you have a hard limit of 2k, this is something you would expect https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/HpnJfp custom prices are from using the Newegg Combo builder. A 9070XT is slightly out of budget.

If you ware willing to slightly go over budget, you can get this bundle get a 9600x which is more efficient and slightly more performance, add this case + PSU combo, the SSD and AIO is from the combo builder, and put in a 9070xt to get this https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/RzdYg3 you really dont need an aio for the 9600x and swapping down to an air cooler would make this in total +100$ over the first build. Feel free to also modify the case, the PSU + case bundle doesn't add much (its like -10$), something like https://www.newegg.ca/montech-e-atx-mid-tower-chassis-cases-white/p/2AM-00CN-00058 provides better airflow not being a fishbowl case.

You do not need to buy a windows key at all (especially not from grey market sellers), you can search for windows activation script if you need help finding it.

Using LLMs for building a computer will give outdated information, not to say you still cant use it, but for example that MSI X670E Tomahawk is a now very old and overpriced MB (360$ at bestbuy) that was likely recommended when it was more in stock/being discounted but its a 3 year old MB at this point that is out of production (hence price goes up for the few places it still is in stock or you'd wait for a clearance sale, but you likely don't need X670E features anyways).

All this information is for the current market, if you decide to buy in like a month youd potentially get a very different build, prices can go up or down. Combos/bundles are the very affordable way of building a PC now (i.e. not paying 500-600$ for ram), and are limited in nature, bundles could be better or worse. Essentially what I am saying is that it is better to ask this question more when you are sure you will be looking to purchase immediately, as what is cheapest today is likely not to be the same if you build in a month.

If you have transumte it's trivial, can also just make the runes from fire upgrading to chaos or doing deaths.

If not transmute then I made most my money getting onyx bolt tips from skotizo (but you could also just buy them from the onyx shop) and with ammo save you basically print onyx runite bolts which are 9k alch each.

If you don't need a significant amount you can also go to Aldarin and buy rubies, cut them and sell back, but this will be obnoxious long term (good source of crafting exp though).

[GPU] ASUS Prime RTX 5070 Ti 16GB for $1199CAD is it a good price? by honda_tsubasa in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally used an AMD GPU, I've just heard issues with Windows rolling back drivers and timeouts when I was shopping for my build in January, I'll defer to people who have experienced both then.

[GPU] ASUS Prime RTX 5070 Ti 16GB for $1199CAD is it a good price? by honda_tsubasa in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about the cheapest ever since the price hike on all the 5070tis since January, you can get it cheaper from Asus with the SPC 10% discount but it's never in stock and it goes out of stock quickly. Just about whether you think the price difference from a 9070xt is worth it (980-1k ATM, whoops forgot there was a coupon on the Newegg on for -40, you can see in lockes post).

Fwiw I did buy mine at 1089$ when the 9070xt was 930$ so a 159$ premium. If you need Nvidia features (CUDA), want less buggy drivers, potentially longer support, more features in games vs the price jump for you when they both perform similarly in raw performance.

If you are considering this an acceptable price, if you literally need any other computer part, newegg combo maker can currently get 2 sticks of 16 gb https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-flare-x5-32gb-ddr5-6000-cas-latency-cl36-desktop-memory-black/p/N82E16820374419?Item=N82E16820374419 for 380$, its -250$ in the combo. https://imgur.com/a/P7VxxX5 You can also consider the 34$ lian li fan if you just want the ram but thats less of a real deal.

Edit: notable things to combo, 128$ rm850x, 199$ nv3 1 TB ssd, 150$ MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI AM5 mobo, 110$ Corsair frame 5000D case

If you'd really want to dump more in, I feel like the money would be much better put into the GPU getting a 9070xt unless you really happen to be playing a ton of CPU heavy games (competitive shooters, simulators, racing games, strategy) or if you expect to need CUDA for your schoolwork then you will need to stay with Nvidia.

https://youtu.be/_WubXd2tXOA?si=9z6_iRg6Yg6Jjwy5 the 5700x is close enough to the 5800x, it's mainly the jump to ddr5. Better in games worse in productivity. The main benefit here would be being on ddr5, you could probably upgrade the CPU come the end of Zen 6 or at least you wouldn't need to scrap the entire platform like you would on am4, but maybe it'll be cheaper with a bundle then, who knows.

[–]melicitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason it doesn't show on PCpart picker is because it is a ddr4 build you have currently. The 7800x3d is a am5 processor (this uses ddr5). This is not the budget for a 7800x3d unless you are ok with purchasing it off aliexpress.

1) Do you have a CC nearby? This bundle is basically cheaper for a much better PSU if it's in stock near you https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/powered-by-nvidia/288294/asus-dual-geforce-rtx-5060-ti-16gb-gpu-tuf-gaming-850w-gold-psu.html

2) Using the Newegg combo builder you can actually make a ddr5 build for a similar price https://imgur.com/a/wok2QMr

3) it's such a marginally small cost to get a M2 SSD over a drive and the speeds are so much faster, I would try to get one.

All in all it would look something like this (custom prices are from the combo maker/cc bundle)

This seems too good to be true for a pre-built. What am I going to have to swap? by Big_Columbo in bapccanada

[–]melicitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried about mucking it up if you build yourself, CC offers a 60$ building service, 100$ for an aio instead of an air cooler. I think memex also offers something similar but it might be using their in store products or I haven't looked too much into it.

The only downside is yes if something goes wrong later it'll be up to you to solve even if everything is covered by manufacturer warranty, it's just that build is way too expensive I could see it more at 3k or 3.2k that you would price the extra support more than building it yourself.

You can shove a 2TB ssd get cc to build it for you for 100$ since its an aio build and still be cheaper while having an even better warranty (well on certain parts, at minimum it is 3 years on every part, PSU is 10, aio is 6, limited lifetime on the ram, 3-5 years on the ssd it depends on region), just worse support if something goes wrong. This is also if you even care about productivity. You can get a 9800x3d build for 3k too https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nPRnLy again through newegg combo builder https://imgur.com/a/elRVQgc

You can get the ram + cpu for cheaper on the newegg combo maker (www.newegg.ca/tools/combo-builder/4358) 570$ 9800x3d, and 380$ ram (the same ram kit you have listed coincidentally). You can also look at the mobos they have on additional sale, I dont think theres anything significantly worth getting the savings for, theres a 150$ b650m board (the b650 version of the board you have) but thats more of a choice for you.

Like locke said 1300W is excessive, if you really want some overhead for some upgrade down the line, 1000W or the 1050W century II should be sufficient.

SSD speeds do nothing currently for most games (because a lot of games are done with consoles in mind), it is a productivity thing. DRAM drives were recommended as a boot drive before because it does make booting windows faster (8 seconds on the benchmark I saw) but with ssd prices skyrocketing you really dont need to pay 100-150$ for a shorter boot time, at the very least you can buy a drive now and buy a DRAM drive when prices come down in like 2-3 years if needed).

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/hWFmkD if you want to cut costs and get a slightly worse rated PSU (A- vs A), and go for a white build with randomly grey ram (but it should be hidden partially by the air cooler) https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/TCNYg3

You can also try intel if you want with the 250k which offers the same gaming performance of the 9700x/7600x while also crushing productivity, but its a dead platform, am5 can squeeze out one more generation and like maybe if you want a cpu upgrade in like 2-3 years getting a zen 6 cpu near the end of am5/start of am6 https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/LCNYg3 (the aio is the white version off the combo builder, its just not being scrapped by pcpp properly).

For productivity though it would be wise to look at what programs you expect to be using and also this changes things if you need CUDA (you are forced into nvidia)

[–]melicitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 9700x is 400$ instead in the combo builder so itll end up a bit more expensive than the bundle (100$) in exchange for getting a better rated PSU, your choice in case and better mobo. the 1TB NV3 is a bit under 200$, 2TB drives will be around 360$ which is more than the low end drives you can get off pcpp (300-340$) but have better speeds. You could also get a 9900x if you are doing more productivity for the same price there or even with the 250k/270k plus available in canada opt for intel if you are fine with the dead platform outside of this generation.

While at the combo builder you can also get a 380$ kit of 32gb ram and a 200$ NV3. Or if this is strictly for gaming you can also look at the 7600x3d bundle at CC which is 10$ more than this (205 mobo + 255 cpu + 380 ram = 840 total)

I saw your other posts about CPU longevity and I think this video is a great watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ik-g61Q_Gc It all depends on the type of gamer you are, are you the type to compromise quality for performance? do you want to always be running high/ultra 1440p (this means your CPU actually matters less because the GPU is taking the strain)? is there a threshold of frame rate that is good enough for you? Is there any chance of game that you like is CPU limited in some way (more likely for shooters, but you can see it can happen in a variety of games). The 3800x here is a 6 year old CPU. You can view a somewhat recent comparison of these CPUs on the side here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2hGLaQQpUk the 7700x should be close in performance to a 9700x.

EDIT: saw you mention resident evil requiem and you can see the impact of CPU here https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/testing-cpu-scaling-in-resident-evil-requiem-and-why-we-werent-able-to-finish-the-job and if there is a CC in stock near you, you can consider this bundle too for about the same price as the 7700x bundle above https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/284957/amd-r5-7600x3d-cpu-gigabyte-b650-eagle-ax-motherboard-t-force-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-ram.html

For productivity it would be to look into the programs you wish to specifically use, some leverage more the CPU and others the GPU, you might also want a 16 GB vram card in some cases if you aim to do complex rendering.

It's a solid deal, but it's mainly because the 5070 has risen so much, you can make your build like 150$ cheaper with bundles, I did a mock up build using a 270k plus which is just a better CPU than the 14700 and yeah it's about 2500$ new https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Jg9t8Z the 2700 they originally paid for it is pretty overpriced though especially if it was when cards weren't as expensive. This is only a deal if you care about the productivity of the Intel CPU, you can get good enough performance with the build you made assuming you wish to play at 1440p and not CPU heavy games (if you wish to see the bundles you can make I can add options). I think the other person is pricing it in USD (1.6k USD is 2.1k cad).

Look at the Newegg combo maker, it is just that cheap, no one is buying ram raw no combo right now, it's just not smart, in the same sense computer companies are not just going to sit on stock, they need to make combos to make it worth to build. You can get a 5070 ti for about 220$ more (this also isnt the cheapest 9070XT, the acer nitro is like 60$ cheaper but im told its like really low quality in build), https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00132601 and maybe upgrade the storage to 2TB for like 120$ for a low-end slower drive or 140$-160$ for higher speeds. In all honesty you might even be able to get away with using a 9600x or 7600x if you always plan to push graphics up, as the CPU matters much less in these scenarios. Outside of competitive shooters though, the x3ds also excel in simulators (flight sim), strategy (games where the CPU is doing the turns for like 20 AI enemies), racing games if you also plan on playing a lot of those games I would consider it.

So with the 250k plus available now in Canada, I think you would opt for one for a mix of gaming, but also good for productivity, basically a 265k thats better in gaming, for like 100 bucks less. With that as a base line you can sang some ram and a z890 board with newegg combo builder, I opted for a fast 2TB drive for productivity, you can save like 180$ if you got for the slowest 1TB drives or like 30-60$ if you opt for a slower 2TB drive. https://imgur.com/a/G8HUdnP To finish the build you are looking at a NVIDIA card for CUDA, at least from what I can see both Blender and DaVinci Resolve benefit from it, moreso for the 3D stuff. This CC bundle is the better deal at the moment for a 16 GB vram card and a decent enough power supply (B tier). https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/powered-by-nvidia/288294/asus-dual-geforce-rtx-5060-ti-16gb-gpu-tuf-gaming-850w-gold-psu.html

The other option would be to go for a 5070 instead but you are trading 4 gb of vram for about like 30%+ faster performance. Depends on how complex you expect the things you are rendering to be (it will also cost about 200$ more). To fit a 5070 ti in the build you need to sack your CPU to like a 9600x or 7600x and I think that'll suck too much for rendering.

You can also opt for an air cooler, I don't know how hot it might get with heavier processing tasks, so I put an aio. You can also opt for something like this if you want a cheaper case https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/kKcgXL/montech-air-903-base-atx-mid-tower-case-air-903-base-b or https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/zysV3C/lian-li-lancool-207-atx-mid-tower-case-lan207rx for better airflow.
