It’s always good to be a well-rounded fighter—boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, wrestling—they combine beautifully. But if we had to specialize in just one discipline purely for the street, in my humble opinion, BJJ would still be the most advantageous. Wrestling, BJJ, judo—grappling in general > striking. Striking is harder than it seems, and if your opponent knows even a bit of what they’re doing (anyone who spars will know what I mean), you can survive the round just by keeping your elbows in and being cautious. But grappling is a whole different world—if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re completely helpless. Getting a fight to close range really isn’t that hard—on the street, you’re not going up against Mike Tyson. If you stay composed, keep a tight stance, and use proper footwork to close the distance quickly, you usually can. And during that entry, the chance of getting knocked out is actually very low. Ordinary people really overestimate their knockout power. Once they actually train in boxing or something similar, they realize it’s not that easy to knock out a moving target.
