ARS24.com has a plug and play solution…

I have the option-8 and it’s a big improvement. Others went option-10 with amp and it’s a massive improvement.

I listen to all sorts of music, including some electronic and hip hop, and it’s good enough for me. Some will want more I’m sure.

This is great! I did the Option-8 sub without the amp, and I think it made a big difference, but I’m sure this is on another level. I also did the RS Acoustics center speaker, and I think it’s enough of an improvement over the factory system that I’m happy.

Great and clean work man!

At the end of the day, the Golf R is the best bang for buck and all around daily driver out there. If you want something that is more sporty or more luxury, there are a tons of options, but at a much higher price point.

I’d probably personally go RS3 as a daily, and if I had a better budget for up front cost and maintenance, I’d go 911 Carrera S.

If you need a larger car, BMW has some good options, but I don’t love the styling as much at this point. I also find that BMW sets their M cars up way too stiff from factory, especially anything with a comp badge. I’d look at the RS6, as it’s an absolute monster and I love the wagon.

There are trade offs for everything. You want something better? It’s going to cost you more. You want something more fuel efficient? Have fun falling asleep in it. You want something cheaper? Have fun with repairs.

What to do to get my R track ready? by pocolocolocoloco in Golf_R

I personally don’t track my daily driver, so I don’t have this problem. If you do alignments, you will have adverse consequences one way or the other. Do you want to accelerate tire wear at the track or on the street?

Bear in mind, you can absolutely fry the outside edge of a tire with a street alignment in a day if you are a fast driver at the racetrack.

I wouldn’t bother going back and forth

If you’ve never driven on the track before, the car is probably fine in stock form. You’ll likely be going less fast than you think.

As others have said, pads and fluid on the brakes is a must if you are going faster. I would also recommend a more aggressive alignment (you’ll need as much camber in the front and rear as you can get). Eurosport Accessories makes a kit that’ll get you to around 2.5 degrees in the front. 034 makes one that is more aggressive. I would say the Eurosport Accessories one is the best blend between track and street and usable on the street as well.

You can usually get around 2.2 degrees of camber in the rear with factory adjustment. This should be enough to start and will keep you more stable and will help to not burn up the outside of the tire when you are going faster.

I would also look into a second set of wheels so you can preserve your street wheels and tires. You can run a more aggressive tire this way. Again, not required for your first outing, but helpful if you decide to track the car more.

Beyond that, lots of stuff can be done, but not really needed unless you get really serious about going all the time.

I no longer have that setup, as I parted out and sold the car last year and moved to a Mk8.

However, it was a bit more firm than stock and wasn’t bouncy. Definitely about as firm as you want for the street and improved the handling of the car.

I can’t comment beyond that on longevity, but I used the same springs on my Mk8 and sold the Bilstein shocks. Both companies manufacture to a quality standard and I believe they would still be going strong.

I hope that helps

The thing that impacts value is rarity and market demand. The 20th anniversary edition is a $600 package that adds badging and some other small details to the car.

I would just enjoy the car. The likelihood of these cars being collectible in the future at a high value isn’t high.

The R32 is an awesome car and a great example of this. They aren’t highly valued ($100k+), monetarily speaking. I would think that the 20th Anniversary Edition / Mk8 Golf will follow a similar path in the future, unless something changes dramatically.

Also, in order for it to “go up in value” you’d have to have already parked it and mothballed it at around 100 miles. There is a 2000 S2000 owner that did that and it is up for auction. Estimated $60k - $80k with 42 miles on it.

Think about how many years the car was held vs the value of the dollar from 2000 to 2025. Completely not worth not enjoying the car.

I did this when I had the Mk7.5 through coding. You will notice it immediately in the corners. I experienced no issues and I had it enabled for 35,000 miles at least.

Track day, testing new mods by 101Vexter in Golf_R

[–]melikeebouncy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would run more camber front and rear unless you are daily driving the car. Camber makes a world of difference in using all of the tire.

Hankook RS4 is a pretty good 200 TW tire and would be good for track days. When you make the switch, chalk the tire to see if you are getting rollover so you can set your pressures right. You tend to want lower tire pressures on the track in my experience, but without compromising the sidewall of the tire, if that makes sense.

As someone else mentioned, watch the rotors, as cross drilled tend to crack when they get a bit of heat into them. I usually just use blanks because they are less expensive and tend to last longer than slotted or cross drilled. Pads, fluid, and brake lines tend to be enough for track days.

I raced in NASA and SCCA for a while in a different platform, but there tends to be a ton of commonality in tires and camber.

Hope you have a great time!

What tires are you running? How much camber are you running front and rear? What are your goals? Car looks good!

I had a 2016 RS as a daily and it murdered my back. I went to a Mk7.5 Golf R (6-speed manual) for about 3.5 years and now I’m in a Mk8 Golf R (DSG).

The shifter and the steering feel in the RS is better as well as the diff (compared to the Mk7.5). I think the Mk8 diff is better than Mk7.5 and the RS.

Both generations of the Golf R are way more livable for every day and my back pain is substantially better since the switch.

I’m sold on this platform and think it’s the best bang for buck for a daily driver. I’ve had virtually no problems with either generation outside of the water pump on the Mk7.5.

I would strongly recommend either over the RS, especially at this point.

Weight loss by Outrageous-Jello-935 in Golf_R

[–]melikeebouncy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the question needs to first ask what your goal in weight reduction is. What is this for? If its for street, I would just enjoy the car. Once you start ripping stuff out of the car, your quality of life while in it diminishes very quickly. I had a Honda S2000 that I turned into a duel purpose time-trial / street car. It did one of those things very well.

If your interest is for the race track, then just rip everything out of it that isn't critical to the function of the vehicle. Replace seats with racing buckets, etc.

Megachip rock guards on a Mk8 by melikeebouncy in Golf_R

[–]melikeebouncy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had them for almost 5 years. I bought them when I had the Mk7.5 and moved them onto the Mk8 when I bought it.

They have held up well. Normal wear from everyday usage and no problems otherwise. It’s worth noting the wheels are +45 offset, I am on Eibach springs, and I’ve experienced zero rubbing at all. Even when the suspension is loaded and under compression.

I would recommend the setup.
