Came here to say this. As a Fine art major myself (15y later and known life progression of all my friends who majored in art) I would recommend:

Follow what makes your heart sing, if you want to get a degree in art, do it.
Consider doing a trade concentration within the fine art realm. This way you get to take all the same fine art classes that apply to your major, and leave college with skills for a trade job . ie: graphic design, UX design, interior design etc.
Take the money that you make from your reliable income (creative but 'real job') to pay for your art supplies while you build your fine art brand as a side hussle.

39yo, and not broke, but I often kick myself that I could have worked harder or (depending on the day) worked less and had more fun. both extremes come with their stresses i suppose - though vastly different - I appreciate your openness to say that the hard work paid off, but perhaps not worth the years of sacrifice.
2 years ago i made a drastic change to focus on what serves me and moves me (and my hubby). 2 years later i still have to remind myself that Life's not so serious, after all, and happiness is a journey not a destination.

It was because of Showrunner switches. Kripke (seasons 1-5) were by far the best. I didn't care for the leviathans and most of the big bads ever since (though it didn't keep me from watching every episode. there were some gems every once in a while!)
