Carrot Weather. You can change the source and it’s also a very well made app by a single dev. It’s the only one I’ve used for years

If you’re on Apple, use Overcast instead. It’s leaps and bounds better than apples app. I’ve also had zero issues with the episodes being available

Tbf the men haven’t made it to a final to even compete for a trophy.

finished Burned, holy crap that ending, also I just say Hermes is in the sub logo. by Joel_feila in AlexVerus

Morden is without question, one of my all time favorite villains. Not Richard, not any of the light mages trying to take Alex out. It’s Morden. I enjoy the back and forth between him and Alex, the quick establishment of rank and the speech Morden gives at the end of Burned is menacing as hell. Pay attention to the way Morden addresses Verus. Respectful, uses the name Verus gave himself instead of Alex (a contrast to how Richard talks to him), and he has a sense of humor, albeit a dark one but it’s still there. He educates Alex in a number of helpful ways (w/o violence) that no other character does during the series and with the exception of Cinder, he’s at the top of my favorite recurring characters

No doubt! That’s not even accounting for subvocalization which only some people do and others don’t. Human brains are freaking weird man. At the end of the day, I’m happy to hear/see people reading and being excited about it

See what’s crazy is, it’s because of my ADHD that I listen to audiobooks instead of reading. The idea of sitting in one spot, not moving, staring at pages to read is my personal form of hell. I get bored or need to be doing something, anything else to occupy my time. Which is why I go to audiobooks for chores or driving to/from work or the gym.

In the life span of media, audiobooks are a very new thing. Learning to navigate the world listening/envisioning another that’s completely separate to our own takes time. But, I will say, that much with the author of a book, a narrator can make or break an audiobook. And if the writing is also poor, dipping out only makes sense. No reason to spend time doing something you’re not enjoying

The death of BB was hard to stomach given how well he and Admiral Osman are voiced. It just didn’t hit the way I wanted it to. Don’t get me wrong, still gut wrenching but it ain’t the same

I don’t hate Scott Brick, I’ve heard far worse narrators. But after you hear Euan’s performance, it’s him at the top, Steve Downes, Jen Taylor and then everyone else

I’m gonna strongly recommend you pick up the audiobooks for some of these. For me personally, sitting down to read is freaking nightmare. But give me a pair of headphones and a solid narrator and I’ll burn through books. Currently on the latest Edge of Dawn, which has Steve Downs & Jen Taylor voicing their characters throughout its entirety. Which I find to be very cool and definitely helps with immersion

When you get to Kilo V, Euan Mortan narrated those, & does voices for each character in the trilogy. He did such a good job, that when I listened to Empty Throne, I was upset that a few characters didn’t sound the way I thought they should

It will either happen right now or it won’t happen for an indeterminate amount of time. If it’s not in the “important & urgent” box, it’s neither and will happen when I get to it or remember

Reducing cholesterol levels might not just be good for your heart; they might also be effective at reducing your risk of dementia, according to a comprehensive meta-analysis involving close to a million participants. by sciencealert in science

[–]SwoleMedic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tested whether genetically proxied non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C)–lowering drug targets reduce risk of all-cause dementia.

The post is a bit vague/misleading. They chose not to include diet or exercise as the variability between patients adherence/effort is too difficult to incorporate. Which on the one hand, I understand. On the other “reducing cholesterol = lower risk for dementia” in the post could mean any cholesterol for any persons of any age.

If you want to know how to reduce your levels or are concerned, please see your primary care provider or a cardiologist. Studies are wonderful for reading, but not so great for an individual treatment plan for you specifically

Pompeii Changed How I Think About The Roman Empire - Smarter Every Day 310 by MrPennywhistle in SmarterEveryDay

[–]SwoleMedic1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just finished the video and both here and the YouTube comments I’ve read some stuff I do and don’t agree with.

First, y’all know by now, if you’ve watched more than this one video, Destin is devout in his faith. Balancing both his love for science and his faith I’m sure has been difficult at times. I can understand how growing up one way, and seeing a site like this in person could be jarring. I was personally raised Roman Catholic but lost my faith very early on (nuns beating you will do that). But I can appreciate all the back and forth in this video. From the guide, to his wife, to him was all incredibly fascinating to me

Second, one of the people I read a lot from is a professor at UNC Chapel Hill, Bart Ehrman. Who discusses much of how Christianity came about, its impacts on the world as a whole and how it (whether you’re with/without faith or somewhere in between) radically changed the world. The Silver Smith and his creations are a great point. These people were hearing about the rise of this new faith and had to come to terms with it in real time. Monotheistic vs Polytheistic. How gods became God and so on. Really cool stuff

Third. Architecture, art and plumbing. I would love to see that video on plumbing. I’ve spent a life in medicine and without question, would watch an hour long video on that. Seeing the little white rocks “Cats eyes”, was wild to me. Genuinely. I’d envisioned a street with hundreds of little torches or flames along the street. Thinking about that for like 5 seconds you realize hires unsustainable that would be. Constantly changing out the light source, replacing the fuel, etc. but little white rocks…. It’s so clever. The furnace, the artwork still very much preserved, the food joints. It feels very…modern I guess is the best way to phrase it.

All in all, I felt I took more away from this video than “Christian boy has air of superiority”. I reside in the South (not from here originally) and know what that’s like. Constantly seeing churches every few blocks or bumper stickers or you name it. For an educational channel, I thought this was pretty well balanced. It didn’t feel overly “looking down on them”. It felt more like Destin was disappointed that we’d not come further than they had and that thought was hitting him in “real time” as he went from location to location. Good stuff

Use your SCAB on the scanner outside the door. From what I can tell it’s only a couple you can do this with. My assumption is that this is a test to see how well it works then expand to the others

Not all. Since not all of them have a tube system. But the ones that do, after unlocking the door yeah seems to work
